Holidays Abound in Massachusetts!

The beauty of Massachusetts is heightened this time of year with festive wreaths and trees, sparkling lights, and giant ornaments at every turn--distinctive signs that the holidays have arrived in Massachusetts! We’ve adorned our lighthouses, Gingerbread Houses, sailboats, ice rinks, and just about anything else we can with festive décor. We even have lobster trap trees on display for you. Enjoy these breathtaking annual winter scenes and have some festive fun as we wrap up one year and move onward towards another.

Nantucket

Nantucket is December’s quintessential holiday destination! But this year’s 50th Annual Christmas Stroll (12/6-12/8) is the ultimate Christmas event, drawing thousands of visitors from around the world! But there’s more: Stroll Marketplace (12/7); Jolly Jam: Skate with Santa (12/8); Annual Red Ticket Drawing (12/24-1 pm) and more. Bartlett’s Wreath Workshops 9am-3pm-Wednesdays-Fridays-Saturdays-Sundays-11/23-12/8. Stay a night or a few, dine out, Christmas shop unique shops-boutiques, stroll holiday-illuminated Main Street. North of Boston

Celebrate Christmas in Rockport throughout the month of December for holiday fun and celebrations! Santa arrives at T-Wharf on Saturday, December 7 for photos followed by the Dock Square Tree Lighting Ceremony. Join Mrs. Claus for Storytime and photos12/1, 12/7 & 12/8 at Cider Hill Farm. Write a letter to Santa and sip on hot cocoa. Can’t miss New England’s brightest holiday tradition, A Christmas Carol, running 12/5–12/22 at the North Shore Music Theatre.

Plymouth County

On Sunday, December 1, 12 to 4pm. Stop by Alden House in Duxbury on Sunday, December 1 between noon and 4 pm to dip candles, make a colonial ornament and learn about holiday food traditions. Over at Edaville Family Theme Park, the holiday fun this December includes steam trains, Christmas lights, food, crafters, Santa Claus and vintage amusement rides! Southeastern Mass

On December 7, the 40th Annual Fall River Children’s Holiday Parade promises to be a magical celebration of the holiday season, perfect for families and children. AHA! Starry Night on December 12 transforms downtown New Bedford - cozy up by the fire pit and behold the Custom House building transform into a giant snow globe! On December 20, enjoy a Navy Christmas Dinner at Battleship Cove, representing what was eaten on board the Navy ships during WWII. Also in December, The City of Taunton (known as the Christmas City) marks the 111th Lighting of the Taunton Green, along with LaSalette Shrine Festival of Lights!

The Berkshires

Make your plans to see the Berkshires dressed in twinkling lights this holiday season! Visit Naumkeag for the Winterlights show, comprised of over three million lights, glittering decorations, sweet treats and more. Let Nightwood at The Mount, transport you into a magical landscape with stunning scenic elements, dramatic lighting, and moving music. Greater Merrimack Valley

The Boston Pops will perform Holiday Pops 2024 at Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Sunday, December 15. Join the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and Conductor Keith Lockhart for their sparkling and beloved Holiday Pops concert! Capturing the magic of the Christmas season and the winter charms of New England, the Boston Pops will perform their signature Sleigh Ride, as well as other holiday classics, and new arrangements of seasonal favorites. Santa Claus himself will make a guest appearance during the concert’s finale, followed by the traditional Boston Pops Holiday Sing-a-long, to bring this special performance to a close. 2:30 to 4 pm. Central Massachusetts

Central MA nights are bright in December, as the Festival of Lights takes Worcester Common, Night Lights dazzle at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, and a Winter Wonderland delights at Southwick’s Zoo. Families embrace longstanding traditions such as Christmas by Candlelight at Old Sturbridge Village and Handel’s Messiah at historic Mechanics Hall. Hampshire County

The holidays come alive in Hampshire County! Northampton’s Main Street becomes a winter wonderland for the town’s Holiday Stroll, while Amherst’s Inn on Boltwood brings in carolers, a holiday tea, and breakfast with Santa. Don’t miss the Lighting of the Merry Maple, and find all your favorite gifts at the Sip ‘n Shop Stroll, where you can take a horse-drawn carriage through downtown Amherst! Mohawk Trail Region

Wall Power! - Modern French Tapestry from the Mobilier national, Paris is on view at The Clark from December 14–March 9. Beginning in the 1930s, artists, government officials, art dealers, and entrepreneurs sought ways to modernize the ancient tradition of tapestry-making in France to reassert its role as an independent art form available to contemporary artists. Drawn from the celebrated collection of the Mobilier national from the 1940s to the present day, this exhibition explores tapestries by such artists as Joan Miró, Jean Lurçat, Henri Matisse, and Le Corbusier.
