“Florida’s Smartest Little City” was used as a catchphrase to describe New Smyrna in the mid-1900s. In this colorized image you can see years of improvement have covered the canal on the north side and paved Canal Street. The bank on the corner of Magnolia and Canal has its upper story now and the building that is today The Hub has added a decorative façade to the roofline. The large oak tree on the right side of the street stood in front of Bob’s Service Station, now Jimmy Hulas.

Compliments of the Sheldon Library in the New Smyrna Museum of History.
