There's No Place like LOCAL for the Holidays!

"Into each life some rain must fall." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Don your rain gear and grab your umbrella because Saturday may be a wet one. But after 32 consecutively sunny Saturdays we're certainly not complaining! And we hope the weather won't keep you away either. Our farmers, bakers and makers will be there with all your fresh & local food for the holiday season.
And did we mention hot toddies at Social Still??
Due to the weather we are moving the Little Brass Band to the front of the Easton Public Market - but be sure to stop by for a listen!

FREE GIFT WRAPPING OF ANY ITEM PURCHASED AT EFM. STOP BY THE INFO TENT AND LET OUR ELVES WORK THEIR MAGIC!

*Please note that a few non-farmer vendors may opt out due to the forecast. For a final vendor list, check our facebook page on Saturdays morning.

MARKET FRESH
WINTER COOKING
Fennel-Apple Salad with Walnuts
From NY Times Cooking
This fresh, tangy salad is a perfect compliment to a rich holiday meal. It calls for Granny Smith apples which Scholl's does not sell, so we'd suggest substituting with Pink Lady.

Market Shopping List
  • Fennel - Salvaterra's Gardens
  • Apples - Scholl Orchards
  • Parmesan - Olive with a Twist (EPM)
  • Celery & Walnuts - Highmark Farmstand (EPM)

FROM THE FIELD
Salvaterra's Gardens
Salad Days
With all the cookies and decadent treats around this time of year it's easy to skimp on on your veggies, but don't do it! Salvaterra's has plenty of fresh spinach, zesty arugula and just-picked spring mix to keep you healthy for the holiday season. Throw some extra greens on your sandwich when you're packing your lunch! You'll also find kale and collards for cooking, sweet Hakurei turnips (good cooked or raw), and radishes (have you tried roasting them?). Grab some red or green cabbage for winter slaws and stir fries, or slice and roast with a splash of olive oil and salt & pepper - or try making your own sauerkraut for New Year's! And don't forget carrots and parsnips for soups and stews. There will also be fresh and fragrant parsley, cilantro and fennel.

Scholl Orchards
All the Fixins for a Local Gift Basket
Scholl's will have loads of winter squash, and beautiful heads of cauliflower and cabbage. And don't miss the red and gold beets; they're perfect in a winter salad. There will be sweet potatoes (great in soups or for mashing), regular potatoes and onions too, plus a nice array of jarred items - perfect for holiday gift baskets or teacher gifts! Stop by the EFM INFO tent for a free gift wrapping on jarred items!

A new addition to this week's apple selection is Goldrush. Scholl's actually ages the Goldrush apples, keeping them in the cooler for 4-6 weeks after picking to enhance the flavor! Also look for Evercrisp, Crimson Crisp, Honeycrisp, Sun Crisp, Fuji, Gala, Pink Lady, Jonagold, Macoun,Ruby Macintosh, and Winesap.
