A Profile of Pride:

Bijan Bagheri

Athlete Bijan Bagheri, age 24, has been participating in KEEN programs for 10 years. He attends the Sunday program in Maryland, the tennis program, and other KEEN social events throughout the year where he enjoys playing with other athletes and volunteers. Bijan looks forward to participating so much that at the beginning of the sports season he knows exactly the week and date of his KEEN session and reminds his mom to take him. KEEN is his time to learn, laugh, relax, and have fun. At the end of KEEN sessions, he comes out fresh and happy.

A few weeks ago after playing with a volunteer, Bijan came home and told his mom that he wants to go to Georgetown University. Later, his mom realized that one of his coaches attends Georgetown and that's why he wants to go!

Outside of KEEN, Bijan works fulltime at the National Institutes of Health. According to his job coach, Bijan's co-workers like him a lot...he learns from them and they learn from him. In his spare time Bijan stays active. He enjoys tennis, singing, biking,

swimming, dancing, and running. Online, Bijan is active on Facebook and plays video games. When you meet Bijan, you will learn that he is sweet, pure, and loves everyone.

 KEEN Greater DC
Celebrates 20 Years at KEENFest 2012

Hosted by ABC News Nightline Anchor, Terry Moran, and sponsored by Total Wine & More and Davis Wright Tremaine LLP (Burt Braverman and Kathleen Meredith), KEENFest 2012 celebrated 20 years of KEEN Greater DC. During the program Total Wine & More owner David Trone was recognized with the Distinguished Community Service Award for their commitment and support allowing KEEN to expand the number of its programs and serve more young people. KEEN coach Lela Williams received the Volunteer of the Year Award for helping make KEEN sports for kids and teens in Virginia a reality and for serving as the lead program coordinator for these programs since their launch in 2010.

After the program, auctioneer Steve Little took to the stage to run an exuberant live auction that consisted of vacation packages, a behind the scenes visit to CNN's DC studio to watch a taping of the Situation Room, and participation at a Redskins coin toss. Near the end of the auction, Steve received help from longtime KEEN athlete Dale. But the fun didn't end there.  After a delicious meal, the Morrison Brothers Band hit the stage belting out classic dance tunes, drawing the crowd to the dance floor for a great way to cap off the evening.

Joyce Koons Raises $60,000!

During July and August, Joyce Koons Honda Buick GMC ran a promotion at their dealership, donating $100 for every car sold during that time period. The opportunity and information about KEEN Greater DC was promoted in TV commercials, direct mail flyers, their customer electronic newsletter, and throughout the dealership. The effort raised $60,000 for KEEN Greater DC to expand our programs in Virginia and support kids throughout the area.

2012 Annual Campaign
