The celebration of Women’s Christmas is an ancient tradition, rooted in Celtic spirituality. In our day, it is a day set aside for women to gather, to be in community with each other, and to rest and refill after a busy holiday season. 



Join us on Saturday January 4, 2025 for this time of rest in the Divine God. Through poetry, song, time outdoors (weather permitting) and quiet reflection we will refresh our spirits by learning a bit about the Celtic tradition and resting in the Love of God and in the loving community gathered for the day.

Personal retreats at the Retreat House hermitage were created for those times when each of us might be nourished by restful time away from our complex lives. Give yourself or a loved one the gift of stillness!

Come for a personal overnight retreat of two or more nights in Galena, Maryland, and savor a time of free-flowing rest.

The Foehliage hosts our hermitage cottage, where you can sink into outdoor walks while taking in the canopy of mature trees along the Sassafras River. The hermitage cottage provides a private room and bath with a generous living room, dining room, and kitchen. Enjoy ample space for resting, reading, journaling, and/or spending time with your own creative project. Or, enjoy our treasure chest of art materials.

Being the Beloved: A Winter Weekend Women's Retreat

In this retreat, we will explore what it means to embrace our Belovedness. Together we will reconsider self-care as an act of love that can transform our relationships in all domains of life. In his classic book, Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World, Henri Nouwen, Catholic priest, professor, psychologist, and prolific writer, says, “As long as ‘being the Beloved’ is little more than a beautiful thought or a lofty idea that hangs above my life to keep me from becoming depressed, nothing really changes. What is required is to become the Beloved in the commonplaces of my daily existence, and bit by bit to close the gap that exists between what I know myself to be and the countless realities of everyday life. Becoming the Beloved is pulling the truth revealed to me from above down into the ordinariness of what I am thinking of, talking about, and doing from hour to hour.”
