Holiday Party December 9th

Join the fun on Saturday, December 9th when the Green Mountain Region will hold its first in-person holiday reception since 2019. The gathering will be at the Idletyme Brewery Company in Stowe, from 3:00pm - 6:00pm. The program will include a sit-down dinner served at 4:00pm, a “Yankee Gift Swap” and perhaps some other surprises. Dinner will be preceded by a cocktail hour with appetizers and a “cash” bar.

The cost is $55.00 per person including all taxes and gratuities. In an effort to keep the pricing reasonable the GMR Board decided that the club will subsidize approximately 30% of the actual cost. As a result the reception is limited to Green Mountain Region PCA members in good standing.

Don’t delay reserving your place at the reception; registration is now open and we need to confirm the guest count with the restaurant on Friday, November 24th. After that date, it will be difficult to accommodate additional reservations

Click here to register and make your reservation.

For this event we are utilizing a new [no fee] registration process. To remit payment you will need to send a check to our Treasurer or utilize your bank’s bill pay services if available. If you have any issues or questions, please send an email to gmrpca@gmail.com.

GMR Poker Run a "4 Aces" Success

The GMR conducted its first Poker Run on some of Vermont’s classic roads on Saturday, September 23rd. The event, organized by Ben Curran and Tucker Purchase, included some 30 GMR members and a wonderful cohort of Porsches gathered at the Fairmont Farm & Market in East Montpelier. At the farm Tucker raised the standard for a pre-tour gathering with some delicious homemade sticky buns!

Each vehicle was provided with a “GMR poker card” to play a 5 card draw game with each team selecting 2 cards at the start and one more at the intermediate stops and finish. The team with the best hand was awarded two complementary tickets to the GMR Holiday Gathering [Idletyme Brewery in Stowe on December 9, 2023]. The consensus among the participants was that the game added a nice twist to a great road tour.

From East Montpelier the tour traveled in a northerly direction on Vermont Route 14 through Calais, Woodbury on our way to Hartwick and the second card draw. From there we proceeded west on Vermont Route 15 to Morristown where the dreams of a winning poker hand was spreading among the group after a third card draw. The final leg turned south on Vermont Route 12 took us to the Barr Hill Distillery in Montpelier where the final card draw took place and the dreams of victory were dashed for everyone except for Bob and Mary Costella! The Barr Hill patio provided a wonderful spot for our members to enjoy a nice selection of and beverages while telling tales of what “could have been”!

Annual Meeting Held Oct 21 at the Coolidge Hotel

The Green Mountain Region’s Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, October 21 at the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction. Members gathered in the historic Vermont Room for the business meeting, a delicious luncheon buffet and innkeeper David Briggs’s wonderful presentation about the murals that surround the room. The murals were painted by noted artist Peter Michael Gish in 1950. The presentation explained the mural’s imagery and recalled some of the notable people who appear in the murals. Everyone agreed that it was a fascinating story. For more information about the murals visit the Hartford Vermont Historical Society website and the Gish website.

A number of reports were presented during the business meeting. Christina noted the club’s sound financial position and presented gifts of appreciation to the 2023 event leaders present. As she noted that without the volunteers there is no club agenda. Brad provided a snapshot of the GMR’s membership trends and announced that the inventory on the GMR online store has been expanded to 20 items. He also reminded members to consider downloading PCA their membership cards to their smart phones and setting up auto-renewal when renewing membership. During an “open forum” Al asked attendees to share what they like the most about the club. Across the board the speakers stressed the opportunities to get together, the down to earth nature of the members, tours and social events. After a quick recap of the 2023 events and a preview of the 2023 Holiday Party Al mentioned that we hope to have a robust 2024 calendar. One tour concept under consideration is a 2 day “Driving 100 on Vermont Route 100”. If you might be interested in helping to coordinate this event please email gmrpca@gmail.com.

Membership Auto-Renew

PCA has added another valuable feature to each member’s profile page that provides the option to have your membership auto renew each cycle. Selecting this option alleviates any concern of forgetting to renew your membership when it becomes due. When a Primary member auto renews it also applies to the Co-member associated with the account.

This function is available one month prior to your membership due date. At that time, you will receive a reminder from PCA of this important feature.

To complete the process, take the following steps:

  • Go to PCA.org.
  • Click on the members’ name at the top right of the page.
  • Member profile will be displayed on the left side of the page.
  • Just below “MY SETTINGS”, select Billing/Payment settings.
  • Enter payment information and select Auto-Renew.

While on your profile page it is a good time to review the information in your profile and make any necessary changes. The correct member information is helpful to both the PCA and GMR

Calling All Kids to PCA Juniors

Did you know that PCA members can sign up their children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews for free provided they are under the age of 18? This is one of the many benefits of your PCA membership. New Juniors will receive an age appropriate welcome kit which includes a personalized name tag.

In just the past two years GMR has doubled our PCA Juniors membership, and we would like to add more. The more members, the more fun we will have when creating a junior’s event.

Name Tags: We recommend that new members and their spouses or partners purchase "official" Green Mountain Club name tags for use at all GMR events. Please email gmrpca@gmail.com to request them for you and your spouse or partner, and our treasurer, Christina McCaffrey, will try to get them for you in time for the next event. The cost is $25.00 per name tag (includes shipping).

Want your spouse or partner to also get these

Green Mountain PCA Newsletters?

When you joined PCA (recently or forever ago) you no doubt listed your partner or spouse as a co-member. Many co-members however have not provided their email addresses. If your spouse/partner would like to receive the Mountaineer as well as yourself, have them call PCA HQ at (410) 381-0911‬ and give PCA the information. It only takes a few minutes as PCA is very efficient. That way you both will receive The Mountaineer and other pertinent club emails.

If your co-member remembers his or her co-member login (it is separate from the main member) you can do it that way too-- but calling is probably the quickest.

Member Feature:
Send us your photos!

We have started a feature highlighting a different member in the GMR Mountaineer with his or her Porsche. If you would like to be featured in future newsletter please submit some photos of you and your car along with a paragraph or two explaining why you joined the GMR, your favorite drives or whatever!

Please reply to this email with your photo and information.
