Hello!
Yes, I know it's August. I also know that home projects require a well-planned timeline. Having personally experienced remodeling project setbacks due to contractor delays, consider this a gentle reminder that if you have a holiday deadline for your next reno or redecorating project, the time to start is now!
This month's feature article focuses on preparations for a well put-together holiday home. Whether you're to planning to order custom furniture or redo an entire room, you should allow at least 8-10 weeks for fabrication and/or delivery.
To round out your room makeovers, you may also want to consider updating your shades for better light control and comfort. Hunter Douglas' quarterly rebate savings offer you an opportunity to save on your next purchase. The Smart Shades Savings
Event
going on now through September 9th offers the perfect opportunity to save on motorized shades.
Kindest regards,

Holiday Preparations

A standard room doesn't have 4 walls - it has 5!
|
A recent trend in the design space has been to accent the room's "fifth wall." Any idea where space number 5 might be? The ceiling!
I remember the glow-in-the-dark stars my daughters would tape to their bedroom ceilings. Now, that whimsical touch can be upgraded into a sophisticated, adult style. Patterns and textures draw the eye upward and accent otherwise-ordinary rooms.

Holiday Preparations Begin
|
|
If you’re like me, there's nothing quite as motivating as a deadline to get a project done. Thinking ahead to the holidays now gives you plenty of time to fully prepare your home for company by Thanksgiving. Whether you’re considering a full room remodel or just a quick and easy update, it’s not too early to start planning. Fall is a busy time for everyone, especially contractors and design professionals working diligently to meet their clients’ holiday deadlines. Once you account for that, design time, and lead-time (from order to delivery), it makes sense to begin planning now.

Comfortable Seating
There are plenty of options when it comes to selecting a new sofa and/or chairs. Between purchasing, reupholstering and customizing, the choices can be overwhelming. This picture is an example of a Jonathan Wesley custom chair that we recently ordered for one of our clients. The tiger-patterned, woven fabric is unexpected in an otherwise traditionally furnished room.
The fabric—a durable Crypton—is easy to clean. Since these chairs are a favorite resting place for four-legged friends, we added custom cushion wraps on the seat and back that are easily removable. With fabric perfectly matched, you have to look hard to see them – a great way to preserve your furniture!

Overnight Guests
Welcome your guests with a well-appointed place to retreat to, whether it be a designated guest room or a convertible space. Cozy bedding is a must with quality sheets, a range of pillows, and a coverlet, light blanket and/or duvet for cooler nights. Have basic necessities available – extra towels, toothbrushes, hair dryer, curling iron, anything you might ask for at a hotel front desk. And of course, shades or blinds on the window add privacy and light control so your guests can get some shut-eye.

Gather ‘Round the Table
The keystone of most holidays is a celebratory meal. If you’re looking to update your dining room for the holidays, now’s the time to start. A fresh coat of paint is an easy way to update, but if you’re looking for more of a statement, consider wallpaper. Pictured here is a recent dining room update for one of our clients. Thibaut grass-cloth wallpaper and custom drapery panels in a neutral, soothing palette create a homey gathering place. The wood tassel on the drapery tiebacks that we found at an antique store, adds a unique decorative element to the banded draperies and takes the transformation of this room to WOW!
