The energy of the holiday season can be joyous and magical; however, it can also be overwhelming and trigger negative emotions for some. Either way, or even if we’re somewhere in the middle, let’s remember our practice of yoga to cultivate a sense of balance, mental clarity, and mindfulness.
Here’s a short mindfulness meditation that I use when I need a quick reset. Let’s call it 5,4,3,2,1 mindfulness. First, take a few deep breaths through your nose. Then use your five senses to observe and name the things around you. Notice:
5 things you can see
4 things you can hear
3 things you can touch/feel
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
This mindful moment might bring you back to a state of presence and self-awareness or at least allow you to take in what’s going on around you in a more mindful way. If you need a little extra practice, don’t forget your mat is always waiting for you. Come on over to the studio Christmas Eve morning to practice with Kelly or on Christmas Day with Jerry.
