KIDS ON THEIR TOES
Christmas is a time of magic, of ritual and tradition. A part of that tradition in Northwest Connecticut is the Nutmeg Ballet’s presentation of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet. Now led by Artistic Director Victoria Mazzarelli, the production has been a staple of the Christmas season for more than a quarter of the century.

Salisbury Rotary Club returned to a ZOOM meeting for its 12/7 weekly meeting. Owen Quinn, Executive Director of United Way of NW CT, shared how the COVID pandemic has changed everything for United Way and its 26 community partners, moving away from being strictly focused on being the fundraising arm to having more focus on community needs and community activities. Between COVID, and long-time UW staff retiring and leaving for new jobs, the United Way has had to re-invent itself and has done so by working with its community partners to help those they serve identify and meet the needs of families & individuals struggling with issues related to education, health care, and financial stability, related to food, shelter, rentals, etc. The United Way’s annual campaign, traditionally from Labor Day to Veterans Day has been extended to mid-January. A kick-off event for our NW Corner communities that included members of the local Exchange and Salisbury Rotary Clubs was held at the Canaan Country Club.Donations can be mailed to United Way of NW CT, PO Box 1001, Torrington, CT 06790 or online via its website. FMI:
