Department of Human Services Warns of Possible SNAP Scams

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is warning residents of a potential scam in which people, regardless of whether they are recipients of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), receive a text regarding an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. If recipients are receiving text messages asking for personal information or information about their specific EBT benefits, it is a scam. DHS is asking recipients to contact DHS’s Fraud Tipline at 1-844-347-8477 to report the issue.

Provider Spotlight

The Behavioral Health team from CHDC found some helpful Holiday Survival Tips for us:

The Mayo Clinic (www.mayoclinic.org) recommends some practical tips to minimize stress during the holidays:

- Acknowledge your feelings – it’s OK to feel…and to express yourself.

- Reach Out – seek community or other social events.

- Be Realistic – the holidays don’t have to be perfect.

- Set Aside Differences – try to accept family members and friends as they are.

- Stick to a Budget – decide how much money you can afford to spend; stick to it.

- Plan Ahead – set aside specific days for shopping, baking, being with friends, etc.

- Learn to Say “No” – saying “yes” when you should say “no” can leave you feeling resentful and overwhelmed.

- Don’t Abandon Healthy Habits – don’t let the holidays become a free-for-all for eating and drinking.

- Take a Breather – make time for yourself. Find an activity you enjoy.

- Seek Professional Help – talk to your doctor or mental health professional.

To schedule an appointment or to become a new patient, contact our Behavioral Health Team at Community Health and Dental Care at 610-326-9460 or visit www.ch-dc.org for more information.
