Citizen Volunteer Needed!

The Village of Whitefish Bay is accepting applications from citizens who are interested in volunteering to serve on the Public Works Committee.

The committee consists of three members of the Village Board along with two citizen representatives (one vacancy). The Committee typically meets monthly at an agreed upon time.

Residents who are interested in any of the vacancies should click here to fill out an application. Application deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 28th. Please email Village Manager Paul Boening with questions.

"Time Flies" - Dedication Ceremony

In early 2021, local artist Richard Edelman reached out to former Village President Julie Siegel and expressed interest in creating and donating a custom sculpture for installation at Consaul Commons. Richard is a North Shore native, and his studio is based in Fox Point. He has fond memories of spending time on Silver Spring Dr., and he was excited about the potential to contribute to the redevelopment effort at Consaul Commons. Although he is based in the North Shore, Richard’s works can be found worldwide. https://www.edelmansculpture.com/

On January 17, 2022, the Village Board of Trustees formally accepted the donation of the "Time Flies" sculpture which was subsequently installed in late September.

In conjunction with Small Business Saturday, a dedication ceremony will be held for the sculpture installation.

Please join in celebrating this marvelous public art with the artist Richard Edelman, and the Merchants of Whitefish Bay at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, at Consaul Commons. Hope to see you there!

North Shore Health Department Healthy Highlights:

Click here to view the November 16, 2022 Weekly Summary from the North Shore Health Department

Loneliness and social isolation are on the rise in Wisconsin and across the United States, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While people of all ages and backgrounds can experience loneliness and social isolation, older adults and people with disabilities are uniquely susceptible which puts them at risk for significant health problems.

  • In the U.S., 40% of people who have a disability and 43% of people aged 65 or older say they feel lonely some or all the time.

  • According to a 2020 AARP Foundation report, two-thirds of adults in the U.S. are experiencing social isolation, with 66% reporting that their anxiety levels have increased during the pandemic.

What can you do?

  •  Join a local book or fitness club or connect through hobbies. There are many people, locally and/or virtually, who share the same hobbies that you do.
  • Volunteer in the community. Volunteers report better physical and mental health compared to non- volunteers. Research has shown that volunteering reduces rates of depression and anxiety, especially for people 65 and older.
