Check out our Giving Tree!

This holiday season, Kitsap Humane Society is doing a Giving Tree donation drive to help our shelter pets. The Giving Tree is a popular holiday tradition that provides gifts for children and families in need. We have a beautiful Christmas tree outside our shelter, donated by Olmsted Tree Farms. The tree features ornaments with photos of items from our wish list. These items will not only help our shelter pets, but donations of cat and dog food also help our community pets in need through our Food Pantry during the holiday season. Stop by the shelter to, check out our tree, take an ornament with a wish list item, and go shopping! Giving Tree gifts/donated items can be dropped off to the donation bin outside our main entrance seven days a week, or mailed in.

Your Generosity Fuels the Extraordinary Life-Saving Work That Happens Every Day at KHS

There is no "one size fits all" to saving an animal's life.

What does individualized care look like?

  • Our Veterinary Services Team saves the life of at least one sick or injured animal every day.

  • Our Veterinarians also perform about 5,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually - reducing our local population of homeless pets.
  • Our Behavior Team brings a more progressive approach to working with animals with treatable and manageable behavioral issues. We stick with the hard cases.
  • Our Foster parents provide crucial support for over 1,000 animals per year ... orphaned, fragile kittens and puppies that need more personalized care.
  • Our Rescue Me Program has established KHS as a “go-to” partner for overcrowded and/or under-resourced shelters in our region – saving close to 2,000 animals a year.

Adorable Adoptable
Dad the Dog is Still Searching for a Home...

In July, a woman arrived at our doors, distressed and close to tears. She had been homeless and living in her car, and she knew she could no longer care for her beloved pet of 7 years. That pet’s name is Dad, and our staff and volunteers affectionately call him “Dad the Dog."

Dad is an active, friendly, playful guy who would do best in an adult-only home without other animals so he can have all the attention to himself.

Volunteer Spotlight
Bob Neff

Bob joined the Kitsap Humane Society volunteer team in July of this year. Starting out, Bob joined our dog walking team along with his son, Evan. Eager to learn more about dog handling, Bob has attended every Canine Behavior class that we have offered since he started volunteering.  He has a very calm demeanor and is great with nervous or fearful dogs. This along with his can-do attitude made him a great fit for our Rescue Me Program!

Bob is now driving transport pick-ups from the airport and riding along to assist on our drives to transport animals from Eastern Washington. Lastly, Bob enjoys helping weekly with our photo team! He assists with handling dogs as they get the photos taken to use on our website and social media promotions. KHS Transfer Coordinator Amber Livengood says Bob is “always willing to go with the flow and has such a positive outlook on things!”

Community Spotlight
Four Foot Photography

Four Foot Photography is a Kitsap County photography business focused on families and pets, weddings and real estate photography. Mary Eklund lives in Port Orchard with her husband and 2 two-footed and 2 four-footed children. She has been volunteering at KHS since 2012. Her favorite part of being a volunteer is, of course, seeing so many pets find their forever homes. Mary also found she enjoys witnessing the “truly amazing core of volunteers” that walk, socialize, play with, stimulate and generally love on the animals in transition. “I went to KHS for the animals (crazy dog lady), but it has been humbling and beautiful to see the dedication of the volunteers,” Mary said.
