pgeNotice of Preparation for an Environmental Document for the Bay Area Operations and Maintenance Activities Proposed by Pacific Gas and Electric

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has filed an application for an Incidental Take Permit (ITP) under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA) Section 2081 with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). Click here to view the entire Notice of Preparation (NOP).

The ITP would cover PG&E's Bay Area operations and maintenance (O&M) activities for natural gas pipelines and electric transmission and distribution lines (proposed project) and establish a comprehensive approach to avoid and minimize impacts to covered species, as well as mitigate for any impacts. O&M activities are expected to be performed primarily within PG&E's existing rights-of-way (ROWs) over the course of the 30-year permit term. The CDFW will direct the preparation of an Environmental Document (ED) under its certified regulatory program to assess the environmental effects of the ITP Application. The long-term ITP would cover O&M activities, minor new construction activities, and habitat management and enhancement activities that could affect certain species.

Interested members of the public are encouraged to attend a public scoping meeting to solicit information that will be helpful in the environmental review process. One of the two public meetings will be held at the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Avenue, on January 8, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

For more information and to view the NOP, please visit: https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/notices.

airIt's Spare the Air Season

Winter is often associated with crisper cleaner air; however, winter air pollution is a real challenge in the Bay Area.  Winter air pollution is mostly caused by particulates from wood smoke burned in fireplaces, fire-pits, wood stoves, and other wood burning devices. Winter air pollution can exacerbate asthma and other illnesses for people, especially children and the elderly.

Several Winter Spare the Air alerts have been called this year. On Winter Spare the Air days it is illegal to burn any wood. You can get Spare the Air alerts by downloading the app or registering for alert phone calls at 1-800-430-1515. Always check before you burn and help keep our air clean.
