Greetings,

Hopefully everyone had a good Thanksgiving and you all paused momentarily to give thanks for being an American.  We indeed have one of the best standards of living in the world and freedoms that no other country can match.

We all need to stand firm and protect those freedoms, as they are slowly being eroded. Write letters, make phone calls and let your voice be heard. Take an active role in maintaining American values, rights and freedom. Much like virginity, once lost it can't be regained.

"HOLLANDS PERFECT PRIMER SEATER"

Complete units and adapter kits if you own a RCBS auto-primer.

Say good-bye to seating primers by hand using the "feel method."

Controlled primer seating is now a reality; give the girls a ring and put one on your loading bench!

Here is a photo of the primer seater and dial indicator used to accurately measure primer depth. Simply uniform your primer pocket depth (either .132 -.133 for a large rifle and .123 for small rifle, BRs PPCs and 308 small rifle primers), measure the primer thickness and subtract from the pocket depth.  This is the amount the primer will be below flush when seated to just touch the anvil. Never crush another primer or fail to seat one properly. This ensures uniform ignition, consistent firing pin impact and minimal primer back-up against the bolt face.  I've designed the primer seater around the RCBS auto-primer.  If you have this primer seater, you only need to purchase our adapter kit to be in business.

Say good-bye to seating a primer with a hand squeezer!

Hand primer seaters will soon be obsolete, much like buggy whips and high-button shoes.

Oak board not  included; just bolt the seater to your loading bench.

Load Data for the 240 Weatherby Magnum

If you are looking for a hot-rod 6mm cartridge with lots of horsepower and mild recoil, look no further than the 240 Weatherby.  You seldom see them for sale in the used rack at your local gun shop; buying one new or building one are your only options.

Norma makes the brass, so one is assured of good quality and long life. I believe that Weatherby makes the rifle with a 1x10" twist. I'd suggest a faster twist due to the large variety of high BC bullets available in 6mm.

High BC bullets really make the 240 shine.  Let's look at the following example.

I just love the 107 SMK in my 6mm XCs. Take notice at what it does in a 240 Weatherby. At 3200 fps one gets pretty excited with the performance.  With a 100-yard zero, at 500 yds it drops 36.5 inches and drifts 13.75".  At 1000 yards it drops 236 inches and drifts 65.0 inches. Convert these to MOA and smile.....

The 240 loves H-4831, H-1000, and  RL #22.  These slow-burning powders really turbo charge the 240 and make for a fine deer and antelope cartridge. If we could just get Nosler to make a 108-110 grain Accu-bond. If you intend on using high BC bullets, a twist rate of 1 in 8" is best to stabilize these sleek designs.

Light bullets in the 70 grain weight class vaporize anything they hit. Imagine 3700-3800 fps with a Nosler Ballistic Tip.  Years ago in Wyoming, I was using a similar combination in a 6mm-06 Improved. I loaded a 70 gr. NBT at 4000 fps and shot a coyote. It nearly cut him in half. I can still visualize the fur cloud in the air.  Rock chucks are literally vaporized at such velocities.

Best powders for light bullets are:  H-4350, W760, H-414 and possibly H-380.

Federal, Winchester and Remington primers are best.  All the same match prepping of brass is required:  weigh sort, uniform primer pockets and flash holes, chamfer inside and out.

Barrel life is kinda short, so don't use your 240 for a paper puncher. Find a good load and put some trophies on the wall and lay a few coyotes to rest.

The 240 will put a smile on your face with every pull of the trigger!

Meet the Vectronix Terrapin!

After some pretty exhaustive testing, the Vectronix Terrapin LRF gets the "Holland Seal of Approval" as the BEST LRF you can buy for under $2000.00.

I've ranged targets to 2583 yards with amazing precision.  The Vectronix provides the yardage in foggy, cloudy conditions that render other units inoperable. The reticle design is easy to use; the beam divergence is 1x1.5 meters at 1000 meters.

The Terrapin uses CR-123 batteries and provides 7500-10,000 pulses before a change is required.  NOTE:  It's always a good idea to carry EXTRA batteries anytime we go on a hunt.

Montana hunting did show the effectiveness of the Terrapin in tough conditions. Deer numbers were down this year and good bucks were hard to find.

BOOK REVIEW...

Every now and then I come across a book that really stirs the soul, a book so good that you can't put it down.  Well, in this issue of the News Letter I can give a 4-Star rating to the following book title.

Hiram Berdan and his Famous Sharpshooters and their Sharps Rifles.

by Wiley Sword

A very interesting read for those Civil War buffs and Sharps rifle aficionados.  Filled with insights into the war and the politics of the day.

Learn the accuracy requirements and the skills of the men who joined the ranks of Berdan's Sharpshooters.  Know the battles and the effects that early sniper fire had on the war.  They had some pretty impressive shots in those days, even by today's standards.

One gets a bird's-eye view of Berdan the man, the inventor, and entrepreneur.
Hiram Berdan was also a great shot and gave several demonstrations of his skill before presidents and generals of the day.

This book is hard to find, but worth the effort.

I've been on the VERSACLIMBER for several weeks now and the results speak for themselves.  The Montana Breaks are tough country if one puts in the miles and we certainly did.  My legs and wind have never been better.  With Oregon rains and cold temps it's hard to go for walks outside.  Having the VERSACLIMBER in the class room has kept procrastination at bay.  I've not missed a workout when I'm home.

NEWS LETTER subscribers can save a few bucks by ordering and mentioning the News Letter.  Call  Versaclimber  1-800-237-2271 and ask for Rich Fisler, he can fill you in on the details...

Montana Results

I just returned from Montana and hunting with friend Paul Carter of Dalton, Massachusetts.  Paul, as many of you know, is an accomplished author, deer tracker and all-around good guy.  Paul was instrumental in getting me on board with the VERSACLIMBER.
We saw a large number of deer and plenty of bucks in the 18-20 inch class.  The weather turned a bit cool and 5-6 inches of snow covered the ground.  Tracking was easy and the deer stood out like sore thumbs.  Paul killed a decent buck that morning after a good stalk and christened his new Holland 280 rifle.

Paul Carter with his first mule deer.  Paul has killed many whitetails, and several sheep slams. He is an accomplished hunter and a pleasure to hunt with.  Thanks for a good time Paul; I enjoyed it!

We did find a good buck (a 25-26 incher) late one evening and I had a shot at 525, 535 and 575 yards.  He was going away from me and the shot angle was bad, so I passed.  We figured we'd find him again and make a swift clean kill. That night a hunter got lost in the area, Search & Rescue descended on our hunt area and drove the deer underground.
We spent the next 3 days curry-combing the area without any success.  Paul and I did get plenty of exercise; we found several Indian marbles, a few large concretions and enjoyed some spectacular views of early morning sunrises and sunsets.
I passed on shooting several small bucks during the hunt, but had a splendid time none-the-less. Having a good hunting partner like Paul is just frosting on the cake.

TEAM ANDREWS!
Brad Andrews and sons with a fine bull elk shot just north of Red Creek in Wyoming.  It's nice to have a couple of strapping young men to help pack.  Well done gentlemen!

Cliff Neuse with a nice mule deer buck.  These open plains can often be hard to hunt,  as the deer have the advantage in eye sight.  Best to wait for them to bed down and then plan a stalk.

John and Robert Baumgarter, the first father-and-son team to attend our shooting school years ago.  The hunting bug has infected them both and they frequently join forces to harvest nice animals like this Utah bull.  If my memory is correct, Robert shot this bull at 625-628 yards with his Holland Rifle.  Moments like this last a lifetime...

DON'T FORGET

We have plenty of reloading components in stock should you need any.  Give the girls a call with your wants and needs.

Be safe and be positive in all you do!!!!!!
