ArtsBuild & The John F. Kennedy Center

for the Performing Arts

Across the country, more than 100 arts organizations collaborate with their local school system as participants in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Partners in Education program. See Arts Integrated Education Workshops section below for more information.

Chattanooga-Hamilton County is the 26th partner city for Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child (AGC), a catalyst program of The Kennedy Center that improves student outcomes and creates community change by leveraging the power of strategic, coordinated arts education.

The following organizations make up the Kennedy Center's TN-03 Partners in Education team:

Arts Integrated

Education Workshops

As part of the Kennedy Center's Partners in Education program, ArtsBuild hosts free professional development workshops for teachers. The workshops are led by nationally recognized leaders in arts education and focus on strategies to integrate the arts into the core subjects students must master. Teachers also learn how to use the arts to help students establish a sense of self-control, accountability, and teamwork.

At the end of Chattanooga's Hip-Hop Week (October 9-13, 2023), ArtsBuild has contracted with Kennedy Center Teaching Artist Bomani Armah to provide local educators and artists with a workshop on integrating Hip-Hop into their lessons. Workshops will take place on Saturday, October 14 at the Edney Innovation Center and on Monday, October 16 at Barger Academy. Educators and artists will be able to observe Baba Bomani's work with students on the morning of October 17.

What is a Teaching Artist?

Teaching artists can be professional artists who want to incorporate teaching into their practice, or they can be arts educators with arts experience that can be integrated into core curricula to enrich equitable learning opportunities.

Everyone can experience the virtual Imagine! field trips ArtsBuild produced during the rise of the pandemic.

Imagine!

Through the generosity of our donors, ArtsBuild is able to support its Imagine! initiative, which provides a systematic introduction to the arts for Hamilton County elementary school students through performances and exhibits presented by several local arts organizations.

Arts-Based Collaborative & Wolf Trap Institute

for Early Learning through the Arts

The Arts-Based Collaborative at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (ABC at UTC) supports professional development and student learning in arts integration by connecting our ABC at UTC teaching artists with schools across the Greater Chattanooga region. ABC provides arts-integrated workshops and classroom residencies that connect artistic processes with standards-based learning needs in STEM, literacy, and Social & Emotional Learning that include clear learning targets and embedded assessments.

ABC at UTC is also the first university-named Affiliate Program of the nationally renowned Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts. UTC-Wolf Trap serves grades Pre-K- 1st by partnering a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist with a classroom teacher that co-facilitate arts integrated instruction targeting literacy and social emotional learning needs.
