International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we remember the 6 million Jewish lives lost in the Holocaust. The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27 to commemorate the lives of Jews who were victims of Nazi persecution. This day also marks the liberation of people from the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Brooklyn has the largest number of Holocaust survivors in the world outside Israel. We must preserve their stories and take those lessons to promote tolerance for people who look different, pray different, or believe differently, to make sure events of the past never get repeated. Let's continue to move forward to a path where we're liberated from hatred and intolerance of others.
