Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! We hope our first newsletter of the new year finds you and your families well.
As we reflect on the holiday season, we want to thank all of you who collected toys for our children at Jackson, as well as those who made a year-end gift. The future is bright at Jackson, and we hope you enjoyed learning more about our plans and how your support helps the health system fulfill its mission.
Since COVID-19 continues to be top of mind and an issue that continues to affect us all, our next Conversations in Care at noon on January 19 will feature Dr. Lilian Abbo, Jackson Health System’s associate chief medical officer for infectious diseases. Dr. Abbo, one of our community’s most trusted voices throughout the pandemic, will give an update on the virus, how Jackson is handling the latest surge, and what you can do to stay safe. We invite you to join us and engage with our medical experts by asking questions and staying informed.
After careful consideration and discussions with medical advisers at Jackson Health System about the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we have decided to postpone the Golden Angels Gala planned for the end of this month. Please mark your calendars for the new date: April 22, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Soho Studios. The health and well-being of you and your families is our top priority. With that in mind, we felt it was the prudent decision to take this precaution and push back the date of this event. We look forward to celebrating with you in the spring.
Thank you for keeping up with Holtz Children’s Hospital and supporting us as a community. Every child needs a hero, and you can always support Holtz Children’s through Jackson Health Foundation. We hope you enjoy our first newsletter of the new year.
Wishing you all the best for 2022,

Spending the holidays hospitalized is always challenging for our young patients and their families, so we try to make the best of it by bringing some cheer to the bedside.
We are incredibly grateful to all who supported our toy drive for all our pediatric patients at Jackson and helped bring a smile to their faces. Our “elves” are too many to name, but we are especially grateful to the following:

Sponsor Highlight:
Mortgage Bankers Association of South Florida
|
|
Jackson Health Foundation is very grateful to the Mortgage Bankers Association of South Florida for their contributions to Holtz Children’s Hospital for over 40 years! Don Rosenthal started the tradition 46 years ago and even dressed as Santa for 40 consecutive years. Even in retirement, Don continues to be involved with Holtz and inspires his colleagues to keep up with their holiday visit every year.
In addition to providing gifts for every patient at Holtz, Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC), and on the pediatric dialysis unit, the group also has donated funds to support special projects for the children. Over the past months, when in-person visits were impossible, the group scheduled a monthly virtual story time where a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association reads to children via zoom.
As you can tell, the Mortgage Bankers Association of South Florida is a pretty amazing group who really makes a difference for Holtz Children's Hospital and Jackson Health System. To them we are forever grateful!

Golden Angels Gala
POSTPONED
|
|
To protect the health and well-being of you and your family, we are postponing the Golden Angels Gala until April 22. Though the date has been pushed back to spring, we will still celebrate the work and life of our very own Legends of Jackson. Generously sponsored by Trish and Dan Bell, we will recognize the significant contributions some of our physicians have made to the community we serve.
This year has highlighted the importance of outstanding health care in South Florida, but the doctors being recognized at this year’s Golden Angels Gala have long exemplified the level of professionalism and compassion embraced at Jackson. Each one of them has touched the lives of many and gone above and beyond the call of duty. They are recognized by their peers as valuable colleagues and incredible mentors and their contributions to the health and well-being of their patients is heartfelt.
In the months leading up to the gala, we will highlight the doctors who we are honoring. These “legends” have a longstanding commitment to Jackson and our community, and are pioneers in their fields. They truly are remarkable in every way, and we look forward to celebrating them in April.
For more information on this year’s Golden Angels Gala, contact Beatriz Galan, Senior Director of Major Gifts, at Beatriz.Galan@jhfmiami.org.

Your Donations Give Young Patients at Holtz Children's Hospital a Second Chance at Life
|
|
By making a donation to Jackson Health Foundation, you are giving young patients like Aaron Ward the gift of life. Aaron was born at just 24 weeks, weighing just four pounds. Aaron was whisked away to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Holtz Children’s Hospital, the largest Level III NICU in the region that can provide care for the sickest and smallest babies. Please consider donating to help save the lives of patients like Aaron. No amount is too small. We truly appreciate your support!
