Adult Education Class Returns September 17th
|
Our adult education class starts again, same place, same time (10:30 in the Social Hall). Instead of just one subject, this year we are going to study a variety of different topics. The list isn't finalized yet, but we will probably be looking at Dead Sea Scrolls (review and updates!), Walking Along with Jesus (DVD), So You Think You Know The Bible (arcane and little known facts). Reviewing how the Bible was created and books that didn't make it. In December we will take our usual break and this year will look at Italian Christmas and TBA topics.

New Sunday Forum Focusing on the Sacred Ground Curriculum
|
Sister Veronica Dunbar (Sister Vee - click here for bio) from the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan has offered to come to Holy Faith to conduct a series of Sunday forums that will focus on the Sacred Ground curriculum.
This faith-based dialogue about race is rooted in scripture and the baptismal covenant, and we will be learning more about the ongoing impact of slavery and Jim Crow laws.
Though the series is usually 11 weeks long, Sister Vee will create a mini version, tailored for us, which she will present on four Sundays beginning September 22, 2024.
Holy Faith will look at the Lectionary Gospel readings through the lens of what it means to seek community and build relationships outside of our normal comfort zones. What is God’s vision for us as embodied in the community of disciples living with and learning from Jesus? This will be a conversation-based series giving us the opportunity to ask questions and learn together.

This Summer – Join Holy Faith’s Efforts to Forgive Medical Debt for Our Neighbors & Root Out an Underlying Cause of Hunger

WOW!!!!

This equates to nearly $1,900,000 of medical debt to be erased and we still have to the end of September left in this campaign. Let's keep it going to help even more of our neighbors. To donate, click here.

First Presbyterian of Saline is collecting new or gently used shoes of all types, styles, and even single shoes for the Soles4Souls (S4S) organization. No smells, no holes - shoes you'd wear today. If you'd wear them, they can use them! S4S provided over 5.5 million shoes to children and families in 2023. First Presbyterian has asked us to join them in this endeavor now through September 30 and will be delivering a box for collections this week. Their goal is to collect 10,000 shoes.
Prayer Shawl Ministry Thank You
|
Laura O'Malley and Diane Jacobs thank everyone who has answered the call to revive the prayer shawl ministry. It is exciting that several folks have stepped up to make this ministry a great one. If you have been hesitating -- please join us!
You can get the directions in church on the bulletin board, by emailing Laura (curtiso.lauraj@gmail.com) or Diane (docsjacobs@yahoo.com), by clicking here, or find them on the Holy Faith website by clicking here.
We invite everyone who is participating to our first "blessing of the prayer shawls" on September 22nd. Diane is fairly slow at making them, but should have one by then. Laura has a couple. Please consider bringing yours to church that Sunday if you have had a chance to finish one. We hope to eventually ask Pastor Andrea to bless prayer shawls three or four times a year.
