I came across a quote recently by Mr. Rogers, which resonated deeply with me and speaks to a core value in our faith. He once said, “I believe that appreciation is a holy thing—that when we look for what’s best in a person we happen to be with at the moment, we’re doing what God does all the time. So in loving and appreciating our neighbor, we’re participating in something sacred.”
What a profound reminder this is!
As Catholics, we hold a deep commitment to honoring the life and dignity of each person, seeing each as a reflection of God’s love. This means that every interaction we have, whether with a friend, family member, teacher, or student, holds the potential for something sacred. Each time we truly listen, extend kindness, or simply look for the good in another, we honor the divine spark within them.
This week, I encourage each of us to carry Mr. Rogers’ insight forward. Let's make a conscious effort to pause and find and appreciate saint-like behavior in those we encounter throughout the day. Whether it’s someone trying their best, a colleague lending a helping hand, or a friend offering support, let’s see these moments as an opportunity to build a community rooted in faith and love.
In embracing this, we not only enrich our school community but also reflect God’s love in a very real way.
