Rummage Sale - This Saturday, April 30 |
The Rummage Sale preparation is coming along well, thanks to many helpers! Remember, your last chance to bring donations is , Thursday 9-4, and Friday 9-noon!
E-Waste must be brought on Saturday only, between 8 and 1. Just drive to the far end of the parking lot and the crew will remove the e-waste from your car.
Don't forget to come shop at the Rummage Sale on Saturday 8-1. Lots of wonderful treasures and very low prices!

Our “Earth Day is Every Day” Faire, sponsored by the Environmental Justice Team, will be held Sunday, May 1, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the patio. Stay after service and celebrate the Earth! Learn more ways of supporting and protecting our planet together. Here is a sample of the offerings we will have:
- Vegetarian lunch and snacks
- Fair Trade Table with coffee, chocolates and more to buy
- Repurposing Table with information, instructions, examples, and giveaways
- Informational Table with ideas and resources for protecting the Earth
- Children’s Reading Nook featuring beautiful books about our planet

- “All About Water” Table with information on grey water, saving water, and more!
- University of Redlands Community Garden students with information on their tree project

On May 1 we will share together Holy Communion in our in-person and online interactive worship. If you will be participating on YouTube, you will want to prepare some bread - a slice, a small loaf, a tortilla, a rice cake - a wheat product is not necessary. Let it be something you alone, or your with others in your household, may break and share. Prepare a cup or cups of juice or your choice of wine-with or without alcohol.

Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team |
An Uncomfortable Truth
In 1833, Britain emancipated its enslaved people and raised the equivalent of £17bn in compensation money. But that money wasn't paid to the enslaved people – it was given to Britain's slave owners for 'loss of human property.'
It was the largest state-sponsored payout in British history before the banking crisis in 2008. Taxpayers' money went straight into the pockets of people who had already profited from a cruel and inhumane business – the transatlantic slave trade.

Our Summer Series is just around the corner, and we will be focusing on just what it means to be a Creation Justice Church. So, let us look at that term for a minute. What does it mean? It sounds a little odd at first, but if we step back to consider the larger picture out of which it emerged, suddenly it seems to capture “the power and essence of one of the most significant areas of Christian ministry today,” as Rev. Dr. Brooks Berndt, UCC’s Environmental Justice Minister put it.
Among environmentalists, the language used to describe their focus has often been up for debate. A narrow definition of the term ‘environment’ refers to “natural outdoor landscapes full of undomesticated plants and animals.” However, the definitions of environment that came from the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit in 1991 were about “all aspects of daily life—where we live, work, and play.”
For people of color, environmental issues are not just a matter of preserving ancient forests or defending whales, as crucial as saving endangered species clearly is. Adults and children living in communities of color are also endangered species. Environmental issues are immediate survival issues. And so, the term ‘creation justice’ pays attention to the intertwined responsibilities of caring for creation and seeking justice for the oppressed.

Cynthia Needs Our Help Now |
Cynthia McGuigan has spent her life fighting and advocating for others, and now it is our turn to help Cindy fight for her life. In late 2021 Cindy was diagnosed with advanced small cell lung cancer. Cindy has endured countless treatments, appointments, hospital visits, and huge medical costs since her diagnosis. At this time Cindy is hoping to pursue a new, potentially life saving treatment, that is not covered by health insurance.
Cindy is the founder and executive director of Steps 4 Life Community Services a transitional supportive housing program here in Redlands, and she has also performed outreach and service with countless other agencies that help the community.
