Greetings!

Rrrrrring!

That's the sound of our phone because folks are beginning to book assemblies and workshops for 2013-14.

Kids cannot live on tests alone, so please consider giving them great music to help the medicine go down (and some great guacamole from our friend, Blake Rowe).

Whether it's a Character Education show for September/October or our interactive Nutrition Show - it's all about blending music & humor with important messages to enhance children's lives.

Did we mention that our new CDs are here, there and everywhere? You can buy entire CDs or individual songs on ITunes, CDBaby or on our web site. See below for more info.

May your June be full of Joy!

Creating Peaceful Schools...and Students
Teach the Do's and the Don'ts
Group Huddle

Oftentimes, we ask children how they should behave when we're writing songs about some aspect of Character Ed or we're interviewing them for our "Creating a New School Song" program. With few exceptions, the younger kids (K and 1) respond with a list of things like this:

  • Don't hit, Don't bite, Don't kick, Don't scratch
  • Don't run in the hallways, Don't say mean things
  • And our favorite - Don't not listen to your teacher

Let's consider for a moment what we DO want our children to be like in school and for the rest of their lives. How can we create an atmosphere where learning is fun and social development is nurtured with positively charged language?

Certainly, we want safety, so let's call it that! We also want kids to resepct the personal space around them and others, so let's remind them to do that! And we definitely want a school and a community where we treat eachother nicely - the way we want to be treated, so let's agree to model it ourselves! Instead of giving kids a constant flow of "don'ts", let's give them a lot of "do's". You'll be amazed by the difference.

Another way we send these positive messages is with our Character Ed programs. They're a great way to start the school year! For younger children, we present "The Golden Rule Show" and for upper elementary we offer "Do the Right Thing!", two shows that are funny, warm, interactive and, of course, very musical!

Please click the names of any of the shows above to learn how you can help to make your kids and your school community full of positive energy where being peaceful and respectful is something that we DO our whole life long.

Holy Moly - It's Time for Guacamole
A Tasty, Healthy Recipe that's Easy, Too!

Guacamole

As we sing in  our show,

Beth & Scott's Nutrition Mission, everyone should have at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Fellow musician, Blake Rowe, taught us how to help your family with this easy recipe for delicious, kid-friendly Guacamole and Chips.

Blake Rowe's Guacamole

Ingredients

2 ripe avocados

1/2 small red onion, diced

1/2 tomato, diced

1 or 2 tablespoons of Salsa

2 Garlic Cloves, diced

Salt

Optional

Cilantro

Lime Juice

Plain yogurt or sour cream

Split avocados lengthwise and remove the pit. Scoop out the contents into a good-sized mixing bowl and mush with a fork until chunky, not smooth.

Add all of the other ingredients to the bowl and stir.

Salt to taste. According to Blake, you'll probably need more salt than you think in order to make the taste of the guacomole jump on your tongue. Place the finished dip into a serving bowl surrounded by chips.

Optional: some people like cilantro (my kids don't), lime juice (I do) and a dollop of either sour cream or plain yogurt to make their guacamole creamier.

Serving Notes: We recommend making this fresh and serving it right away. If you need to prepare it in advance, please cover it and chill in the refridgerator.

Enjoy as a dip or as part of a Mexican meal for the family!

Here's the songs:

Time For You, Time For Yoga

Time for You; Time for Yoga with Beth Bierko

Did you know that Beth Bierko was a gifted yoga teacher? True that. This CD is a full yoga class, 77 minutes in length, featuring Beth's gentle approach to practicing yoga.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced student, you will enjoy Beth's guided self-massage, energizers, seated poses and more.

As an added bonus, Scott Bierko produced some beautiful background music featuring himself and fellow composer/musician/guacamole maker, Blake Rowe (www.blakerowe.com).
