Holy Nativity Parish Restructuring

To:  Our Holy Nativity Community of Church and School

As you may know, we are undergoing a restructuring of the Holy Nativity School Board in response to a clarification of the relationship between the Church and the School.  Please rest assured that this restructuring and changing of the composition of the School Board will not have any discernible impact upon the excellent education the children receive here at HNS.  No change in instruction, staffing, or curriculum is planned.  Funds from tuition will continue to support the faculty, staff, and students.  Additionally, we will benefit from closer ties between Church and School that will allow us to more actively collaborate as we continue the HNS tradition of "Character, Heart and Excellence."

This restructuring comes as a result of an erroneous assumption that evolved long before most of us joined the Holy Nativity community.  For some time, the Church and the School have been functioning as independent entities and making their institutional decisions autonomously.  The lawful relationship, however, is that Holy Nativity School is a mission owned and overseen by The Church of the Holy Nativity.  As such, the Church is legally responsible for the School and we are restructuring the School Board accordingly.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Holy Nativity Senior Warden, Dr. Barbara Poole-Street, through the church office at 808-373-2131 or holynativity@gmail.com. Barb will also be available after church services the next couple of Sundays to answer questions.

Blessings,

Dr. Barbara Poole-Street          Rev. Debra Vanover

78th General Convention
The Episcopal Church

The 78th General Convention of The Episcopal Church is taking place in Salt Lake City, Utah through July 3. The Episcopal Church's General Convention is held every three years, and is the bicameral governing body of the Church. It comprises the House of Bishops, with upwards of 200 active and retired bishops, and the House of Deputies, with clergy and lay deputies elected from the 108 dioceses and three regional areas of the Church, at more than 800 members.

In her opening remarks on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori said, "This body is meant to be sacrament of God, an outward demonstration of the life and hope within us."

Please keep Bishop Fitzpatrick, the Hawai'i delegation and all those in attendance in your prayers. Also in attendance is our Province VIII youth representative, Sonja Barba, of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Honolulu.

For more information including live streaming of the convention and complete convention documents, please click here.

Prayer for Today

O God: Give me strength to live another day;
Let me not turn coward before its difficulties or prove recreant to its duties;
Let me not lose faith in other people;
Keep me sweet and sound of heart, in spite of ingratitude, treachery, or meanness;
Preserve me from minding little stings or giving them;
Help me to keep my heart clean and to live so honesty and fearlessly that no outward failure can dishearten me or take away the joy of conscious integrity;
Open wide the eyes of my soul that I may see good in all things;
Grant me this day some new vision of thy truth;
Inspire me with the spirit of joy and gladness; and make me the cup of strength to suffering souls; in the name of the strong Deliverer, our only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
