News from the Altar Guild

Aloha,

The Altar Guild is busy working behind the scenes helping to prepare the altar and the sanctuary for our many services. The Altar Guild has 23 women and 1 man. The teams work on a rotating schedule to make sure the sanctuary is clean, the altar is prepared, the hymns are posted, the linen is clean and pressed, and the chapel is cared for. Our most important duties are the proper set up, removal and care of the blessed sacraments. In addition to weekly services, we work together to decorate the church for Christmas and Easter and to make sure that baptisms, weddings, and funerals run smoothly.

Recently we enjoyed a lovely luncheon and short business meeting at the Maple Garden by Yen King restaurant. It was an excellent opportunity for fellowship among all the members of the Altar Guild. Special thanks to Lorraine Mau for securing the location and selecting a wonderful family menu.

Altar Guild Team Leaders

The Altar Guild prepares the church and altar for all Holy Eucharist and other worship services as well as weddings, funerals, and holidays like Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.
Readers Needed for Palm Sunday Passion Narrative

We need folks to read the various roles in the Passion Narrative for both services on Palm Sunday, March 29. Please contact the church office at holynativity@gmail.com or 373-2131 if you can serve in this way.

Our Farmer's Market coming to Holy Nativity
First Tuesday of Each Month 5-7:30 pm
Begins Tuesday, April 7

A new farmer's market is coming to Aina Haina! Our Farmers Market will set up in the Holy Nativity Church parking lot and will feature fresh, local produce along with many other vendors that can be found at similar night markets around the island. The market, to be held on the first Tuesday of each month from 5 pm to 7:30 pm, will include food trucks, fresh pressed juice and lemonade, and local artists with varying products such as jewelry, homemade soaps, and Hawaii-designed clothing and swimwear.

Our Farmers Market offers an environment that is both child and adult friendly to the residents of Aina Haina and nearby neighborhoods. While parents enjoy shopping, their kids can participate in fun activities just for them. Our Farmers Market will be a destination on Tuesday evenings for everyone in the community!

Train the Trainer Course for
Safeguarding God's Children Leaders

The Diocese has scheduled a "train the trainer" class to train new leaders for the Safeguarding God's Children (SGC) course that is required for all clergy, vestry members, and anyone working with children in the church. Upon completion of the train-the-trainer course, trainers can teach the Safeguarding God's Children class as their own church, for their church members, as well as at other area churches.

The Train-the-Trainer for SGC training will be held on:
Saturday, April 18
2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Diocesan Conference Room
Class size is limited.

Here's a link to the Safeguarding God's Children course information on the Diocese website:  http://www.episcopalhawaii.org/safe-church-trainings.html

For more information and to register for the training, please email Irina Martikainen in the Bishop's Office at BishopSecretary@episcopalhawaii.org

Easter Lily Dedications

Have you submitted your Easter lily dedication yet? Now you can do so via the church website, just click here to complete the dedication form.

Easter lilies can be given in memory of a loved one or to honor family and friends. All dedications will be printed in the bulletin on Easter Sunday.

You may submit your dedication via the church website or complete a dedication card (located in the glass-enclosed bulletin board in front of the Sanctuary) and place it in the collection plate on Sunday or drop it by the church office. Suggested donation is $20 per plant. Please make check payable to Holy Nativity Church.
The annual Pa'ina to benefit Holy Nativity School is Friday, April 17, 2015 at 5:30 pm at the Waialae Country Club.  For complete event information, including tickets, sponsorship, and silent auction bidding, please visit their website here .
Longtime Holy Nativity parishioner Ed Moore, Vice President of the English-Speaking Union Hawaii Branch, moderated their annual Shakespeare Competition last month which included students from 16 schools and three islands. Ed is pictured here with contest winner Sarah Spalding who will travel to the Lincoln Center in New York in April for the national finals.
