Holy Nights Dream Journaling

The more you journal, the more you tell your subconscious mind that you honor its messages. In turn, you will have more detailed, more significant dreams. Some dreams may even be lucid or prophetic.

It is in our idleness, in our dreams, that the submerged truth sometimes comes to the top

Dear Energy Healing & Wellness Friends,

My grandchildren win the sleeping cutie patootie cover photo for this year's Holy Nights Dream Journaling newsletter! This was from April of this year when I was back to FoCo for a visit before I moved back. I hung out with them last night while Lindsey and Sam were out with friends and we were going to try to get a current pretend sleeping one. Let's just say we had some good laughs but didn't produce a photo with a sleep/dream vibe!

If you are new to my newsletter and you haven't ever tried Holy Nights Dream Journaling, I have included the complete description of how to do it again in the Journaling Prompt box below. It starts Christmas Eve so gather your journal and pen and optional essential oils by your bed, and keep reading for a little more info about what it is and a bit about my experience with it last year.

The way it works is that for each of the twelve Holy Nights you are setting the intention that your dreams will reflect themes that are in your highest good for each month of the coming year.

Each night reflects themes for one of the coming months from a Zodiac year that begins in April and ends in March of the following year. I have done it for the past 26 years. The way it typically works for me is that something will unfold in my life during the year and it triggers a memory of a dream and then I go back and re-read my Holy Nights Dream for that month and discover there indeed is something there that reflects and validates that plan or thought or feeling or event. Or, if I'm struggling to make a decision about something, I will look back at my dream for that month to see if it gives me any clarity. This will make more sense when you read the full description below! I have also included some basic suggestions for increasing your dream recall.

In my Holy Night's dream for September 2023, I had written that my daughter, Lindsey, and I were at a grocery store in another town. In another scene for that month, I wrote that she was on a bike riding toward me and asking me where my bike was. In the dream, we were staying at a fancy hotel and I commented to her that we couldn't keep staying there if it weren't for the fact that it was being paid for by someone else and I was really grateful that we were there. In real life, my son, Eli, and his now wife, Hanna, got married in September 2023. After the wedding, we all stayed at Hanna's grandma's huge beach house in Cape May, NJ for three nights. Lindsey and I were in charge of all the food so we did indeed go to a grocery store together in another town! We also all rented bikes on one of the days and biked to a vineyard in the country to have lunch. And it's true...I was indeed very grateful and we realistically could not afford to vacation at a beach house so close to the ocean in Cape May! It's just kind of fun to feel like certain plans were in the cards long before they were made.

For my December 2023 dream I simply wrote "I can't remember the details but Shonna was in my dream a lot." Shonna is one of my high school friends who was just here for my birthday weekend last weekend and the whole weekend plan evolved because she was going to be in Colorado and wondered about coming up for my birthday weekend. I also wrote that a particular client of mine was popping in and out of the dream for December 2023 and what is true is that person did have some hard stuff up this month and I have supported that person with more sessions than just their normal monthly session. It felt validating that the support this person needed in this challenging time was energy healing and an intuitive reading.

Some of your dreams will be extremely detailed and some may just be one simple flash of a scene. Simply write anything and everything you can remember, even if it makes no sense to you, because when that month arrives, it just might have a perfect message for you.

If you have friends you think would be interested in trying this, feel free to forward this newsletter to them and invite them to subscribe to my newsletter.

Steps for Dream Recall

  • Set your dream journal and pen right by your bed.
  • Set the intention to remember your dreams. Make statements throughout the day such as "I will remember my dreams". You may also want to write on a slip of paper the intention to have a specific clarity dream for whatever month you are dreaming about that night and tuck it under your pillow before you go to sleep.
  • Just before you go to bed, you can touch the journal and pen while saying, "I would like a dream about (insert month here)....." and promise to work with that dream in the coming year.
  • Write the date on the page before you go to sleep, believing you will have a dream to write there in the morning. I always write it as a combination of the date you go to sleep and the date you wake up. Example: December 24-25, 2023
  • You may want to anoint your heart chakra (which is the center of your chest) and/or your brow chakra (center of your forehead) with rose or lavender oil (or another oil you like) and while doing so, set the intention for dream recall.
  • You may want to light a candle as you set your intention and do your other pre-sleep rituals and then blow it out before you go to sleep.

Journaling the Dream

Write down as much as you can remember from the dream, writing whatever comes, in any order.

Underline the major symbols or concepts presented in the dream.

Draw a picture of any part of the dream to capture your feelings and recollections.

Journal Prompt

  Holy Nights Dream Journaling

This is an idea inspired by Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf Education. I have done it every year for the past 26 years. The way it works is that each night before you go to bed during the Holy Nights, you do some sort of ritual to set the intention to remember your dreams for that night. You ask that your dreams will reveal the themes that will be in your highest good for the coming months. Each night represents one month of the coming year, starting with April 2024. The only night between December 24 and January 6 that you don't do it is on New Years' Eve.

Your pre-sleep ritual can be whatever you choose. I usually anoint my heart chakra and my brow chakra with rose or lavender oil or any essential oil you like will work fine. I also write the date on the journal page before I go to bed, setting a strong intention that I will remember my dream and have something to write in the morning. So, for example, on Christmas Eve I will write "Dec. 24-25, 2023- Reflecting themes for April 2024". (i.e. the night starts on the 24th and ends on the 25th.)

Have your dream journal and pen right by your bed so when you wake up in the morning, you can write whatever you can remember, whether it makes any sense to you or not. If you happen to wake up in the middle of the night and remember something you have dreamt of, I highly recommend that you jot down at least one word to help you remember it in the morning. Last year I used my voice memo app on my phone to just mumble a word or two into it if I woke up in the night so I'd remember the dream when I woke up, rather than picking up a pen and writing a word or two. Then in the morning, I wrote the dream. The voice memo was just to help me remember. The schedule is like this:

Dec. 24-25, 2023- Themes of April 2024

Dec. 25-26, 2023- Themes of May 2024

Dec. 26-27, 2023- Themes of June 2024

Dec. 27-28, 2023- Themes of July 2024

Dec. 28-29, 2023- Themes of Aug. 2024

Dec. 29-30, 2023- Themes of Sept. 2024

Dec. 30-31, 2023- Themes of Oct. 2024

Dec. 31- Jan. 1- Take a break!

January 1-2, 2024- Themes of Nov. 2024

January 2-3, 2024- Themes of Dec. 2024

January 3-4, 2024- Themes of Jan. 2025

January 4-5, 2024- Themes of Feb. 2025

January 5-6, 2024- Themes of Mar. 2025-

I am always amazed at how prophetic my Holy Nights dreams are. While it is believed that the veil between worlds is very thin during the Holy Nights, making it easier to tap into higher wisdom, I believe it can also be partially intention over technique so if you miss a day or start late, just set the intention for some makeup days at the end or be content with a few months worth of insights.
