The Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

"My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God."

Good People of Holy Spirit,

This week is Vocation Awareness Week, when we are invited as a faith community to pray and discern how God may be calling us to serve, including through the priesthood and religious life. This weekend, at the conclusion of Vocation Awareness Week, the diocese will offer Called by Name Sunday and will continue to do so at the same time each year. The Called by Name initiative will help identify men and women, ages 16 and up, who might have a call to the priesthood or religious life. God calls but sometimes He uses our voices. If you know someone who has characteristics you think might make a good priest or religious brother or sister, be ready to submit their contact information this weekend or next weekend so they can receive a special letter from Bishop Johnston.

I’ll be honest, the Catholic priesthood was not on my radar at all growing up nor necessarily in college (Go Mizzou!). However, the Lord was stirring my heart silently and when the call to the priesthood came, there was a peace beyond measure. As I’ve mentioned before, future priests and religious come from faithful families and we cannot assume “other families will take care of it”. Often families struggle to encourage vocations because it is so counter-cultural, we’re not sure how to support our sons or daughters. You are not alone. I pray our parish cooperates with the Holy Spirit and our community becomes a wellspring for healthy and holy future vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Let us warmly encourage these adventures of following God’s call in the Called by Name initiative.

Ladies Auxiliary Meeting, Thurs. • 11/12 • 7pm, Wittman Hall (formerly the A/B Room)

The month of November brings the talented Holy Spirit Quilters. They will be sharing their handmade items with us which are available for purchase. They always bring a fun array of items, we always look forward to having them there! As a reminder, we use each of our monthly meetings as an opportunity to collect donations for Catholic Charities. If you are able and inclined to contribute, please consider bringing necessity items for men, women, or children.

Over the past few months, we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to connect with so many amazing women across our parish! We would love for you to join us at an upcoming meeting. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our December meeting featuring a special Holiday Gathering and our guest, the one and only Father Mark, surely you don’t want to miss out. Ladies Auxiliary would also like to offer transportation to anyone who needs a ride to the meeting. Please email hskcla@gmail.com and we will gladly arrange a ride for you.

You do not have to be affiliated with a Knights of Columbus member to be able to join or attend our Ladies Auxiliary.

Please see below for a special request for help for this month directly from Hope Haven (in addition to Catholic Charities).

Hope Haven, a women's shelter in Harrisonville, has reached out to Holy Spirit's Ladies Auxiliary for additional support through holiday donations. The Holiday Donation Drive is being held now through Saturday, November 14. The focus of this drive is to collect non-perishable food items and household supplies to help create holiday dinner boxes for Hope Haven's clients and their families, allowing them to enjoy a special holiday meal together.

In addition, donations of housing essentials are always needed and greatly appreciated.

Please drop off your donations at the church office during regular office hours and clearly mark them "Hope Haven" or bring them with you to the LA Meeting on 11/12, also clearly marked for "Hope Haven" and we will make sure these donations get delivered to them as requested.

If you have any questions, please contact the Ladies Auxiliary at hskcla@gmail.com.

Thank you for your generosity and support of families in need.
