The Solemnity of All Saints

"Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face."

November 1st is the Solemnity of All Saints! On this day, the Church honors all the saints, those who have finished the race and now rejoice in God’s presence. We honor the towering

figures like Sts. Peter, Paul, Augustine, Francis, and Thérèse of the Child Jesus, and we honor the humble saints as well, those whose names are known to few or to none: the grandparents

and ancestors, the friends and teachers who lived their faith to the full and inspired faith in others. This is a day to celebrate them all.

On the day after All Saints comes All Souls’ Day, the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed, when the Church prays for those who have gone before us in faith, trusting that God will hear and answer our prayers that they know eternal light, happiness, and peace. As we remember and pray for our loved ones who have died, the reality that we ourselves must one day die is also brought home to us as a gentle, insistent reminder. As St. Ambrose wrote, “Death is then no cause for mourning, for it is the cause of mankind’s salvation. Death is not something to be avoided, for the Son of God did not think it beneath his dignity, nor did he seek to escape it”. May the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

The entire month of November is often dedicated to our beloved dead. So I highly encourage remembering them, praying for their souls, and also perhaps visit their gravesides (if possible) and lift your heart to the Lord of Life.

Next week, Missourians will be considering how to vote on Amendment 3, which would repeal the most harmful provisions of the 2024 amendment that regrettably enshrined abortion in our state constitution. Bishop Johnston joins his brother bishops across the state of Missouri in urging Catholics to vote YES on Amendment 3. You may read or watch the full statement from the Missouri bishops at kcsjcatholic.org.

Ladies Auxiliary Meeting, Thurs. • 11/12 • 7pm, Wittman Hall (formerly the A/B Room)

The month of November brings the talented Holy Spirit Quilters. They will be sharing their handmade items with us which are available for purchase. They always bring a fun array of items, we always look forward to having them there! As a reminder, we use each of our monthly meetings as an opportunity to collect donations for Catholic Charities. If you are able and inclined to contribute, please consider bringing necessity items for men, women, or children.

Over the past few months, we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to connect with so many amazing women across our parish! We would love for you to join us at an upcoming meeting. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our December meeting featuring a special Holiday Gathering and our guest, the one and only Father Mark, surely you don’t want to miss out. Ladies Auxiliary would also like to offer transportation to anyone who needs a ride to the meeting. Please email hskcla@gmail.com and we will gladly arrange a ride for you.

You do not have to be affiliated with a Knights of Columbus member to be able to join or attend our Ladies Auxiliary.

Please see below for a special request for help for this month directly from Hope Haven (in addition to Catholic Charities).

Hope Haven, a women's shelter in Harrisonville, has reached out to Holy Spirit's Ladies Auxiliary for additional support through holiday donations. The Holiday Donation Drive is being held now through Saturday, November 14. The focus of this drive is to collect non-perishable food items and household supplies to help create holiday dinner boxes for Hope Haven's clients and their families, allowing them to enjoy a special holiday meal together.

In addition, donations of housing essentials are always needed and greatly appreciated.

Please drop off your donations at the church office during regular office hours and clearly mark them "Hope Haven" or bring them with you to the LA Meeting on 11/12, also clearly marked for "Hope Haven" and we will make sure these donations get delivered to them as requested.

If you have any questions, please contact the Ladies Auxiliary at hskcla@gmail.com.

Thank you for your generosity and support of families in need.
