Illuminare will chant Compline on Sunday August 11th @ 7 p.m. Holy Trinity Church, Nevada City. The all-Reynolds' quartet of Jean, Jeff, Jim, and Matt Reynolds will sing. Details on what they will present are upcoming. During high summer, the loft in our 1874 structure is untenable because of the afternoon heat, so the quartet will sing a midsummer night's Compline from the last row downstairs where the air conditioning makes a difference. We will still have the ever present candle array burning in soft 11th century lumens. You need this. See you there. Bring a couple friends. The air conditioning will be on.

Holy Trinity Supports
Boy Scout Eagle Project School Stairs!
My name is Cole Retzler and I have been a member of the local scout troop 24 for 6 years. For those of you that don't know, your church generously acts as our troop's charter organization, giving us a helping hand in times of need. Recently, I have begun the journey to obtain the highest rank in scouting, Eagle Scout. One of the requirements needed to achieve this rank is the famous, "Eagle Project." An Eagle Project is a chance for scouts to help learn valuable life skills while benefiting their community. To find inspiration for my project, I looked at the community around me and how it could be made better. At my old middle school, Seven Hills, I vividly remembered a rather steep, pine needle covered hill that I and many other students, parents, and teachers used to get from a nearby road to their classrooms. I decided to build a staircase on that hill so that all the people that use this pathway can safely get to and from school. When I started this project, I assumed, like most people, that it would be a rather simple construction project, but quickly realized the biggest challenge and most important part of the project was actually the hundreds of hours of background work that needed to be done in order to make everything go smoothly. Building permits, different materials, fundraising, job expertise; all of these components were an entirely new concept to me during the project. Did you know that California has a book of build codes specifically for building outdoor stairs longer than 15 feet on a school campus? That was the second thought that went through my mind after I got a copy, following shortly after the realization that it felt like it weighed more than a bowling ball! It was obstacles like these that encouraged me to adopt new techniques and prepare me for my adult life after the project. Through this project, I gained experience in meeting and interacting with store managers, engineers, contractors, and many other people that are well established in their careers. I also learned how to ask for donations, run and manage a large fundraising campaign, budget out current and future costs, and organize a volunteer workforce over multiple days of construction. All of these skills have already been a benefit to me and will continue to help me out in the future.
I could not have completed the project, and subsequently gained this knowledge, if not for the support of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. In addition to directly supporting my project, your church continues to help out other aspiring scouts like myself in their scouting journeys. Thank you!
PASTORAL CARE:   The well-being of our members and friends is very important to us. If you are homebound or in the hospital or nursing home and unable to attend church, please call the office so that we can visit you, add you to our prayer list and arrange a Lay Eucharistic Visitor to bring you Communion.
