Holy Trinity
Parish eNews
September 2019
Good September to You All!

It's that time of year when we are evaluating how this year is going and what we are planning for next year. The biggest piece to help plan for next year is completing Pledging Season ( I hear those groans).

Let me say this: thank you to all of you who give of your time, your talents and your treasure. Without you, things would look quite different.
So, again, thank you.

Just like last year, I promise no beg-a-thons; we're all adults here and so I will assume that you know that churches require finances, time and skills to operate. I also assume you know ( with zero guilt intended) that being an active member of Holy Trinity means pledging is a part of the program.
As a part of being active, we budget the time we are able to serve, what gifts and talents we have and can share, as well as how much of our finances that we wish to contribute to this parish.

Some of you ( like me) come from an Evangelical background that makes this whole "pledging" thing seem odd or silly. I can tell you from a pastoral perspective (having been in both the Evangelical and Episcopal worlds) that it is helpful for planning purposes.

We, currently, have a budget of around $270,000.

This is allocated into areas like:
  • Compensation
  • Office and Janitorial Expenses
  • Worship and Outreach Ministries
  • Diocesan Expenses
  • Capital Expenses.

The Vestry would like to plan and make an honest budget for this next year.
In order to achieve this, we will start our pledging season on Sunday September 29th and will conclude on November 3rd. Please come pick up your pledge cards on the 29th ( and attend our All Parish Meeting at 9:30 to hear about the exciting things happening here) so that plans can be made.

Thank you,

Brad+

On Sunday, September 29th, we will have an All Parish Meeting in the sanctuary. It will start at 9:35
(we will not have a forum that day) and go until approximately 10:20.

We will review the Vestry Goals and talk about how we are currently doing. Please come join us and hear about the exciting things happening at Holy Trinity.

The Adult Forum series during Eastertide on Jung and Christianity was well received, with a unanimous desire to continue the discussion in September. The exact subject matter, however, was left undecided, so during our initial meeting on Sep 15 we will review the many options and make a choice. The series will continue to be moderated by the Rev. Dr. David Davidson-Methot, priest and Jungian analytical psychologist.

…Wait, there’s more!
In the meantime, those interested in continuing (or joining) the Fall discussion might want to consider which topic they’d like to dive into. Options include:

Jung on Eastern Religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, etc)
Jung on Jewish Mysticism (Kabbalah)
The Divine Feminine (based on early mythology, such as “Gaia” – “Earth Mother”)
… Note these three above would continue the pattern of viewing a portion of a DVD lecture on the topic and then discussing it in the Forum .

The “Masculine” and “Feminine” archetypes (Animus and Anima, respectively) in Jungian thought and their mythological and artistic expression.
Notion of the “Hero” archetype ( J. Campbell’s “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”)
Further exploration of the “Numinous” (profound religious experiences) and how these impact “regular folks” like us (may include reading and discussing Rudolph Otto’s “The Idea of the Holy” which strongly influenced Jung)
The list could go on, but you get the idea!

… But wait, there’s more!
Some folks felt that the time constraints, squeezing in between both services, choir people having to leave so early, etc., proved frustrating. So, another option ( in addition to, rather than instead of ) is to form a study group that would meet outside of Sunday morning, allowing much more time for discussion and reflection, likely involving reading and discussing together one of the many books shared at the last Adult Forum (on June 2). If you would be interested in participating in such a study group, look for “Foothill Friends of Jung” on Meetup.com and sign up.

Judges can just show up to have some of the best chili in the county! There aren’t many rules. You can use beans, but you don't have to, just make what you want & bring it!

No cost to enter or to taste!

At Utah's Place
If you can provide store-bought dessert or muffins, or if you can volunteer to help serve dinner or be a drinks-server, please let me know. We are still in need of servers for the dinner at Utah's Place in the future. You don’t have to help every time, but if you are interested in helping sometime, please call me so I can add you to the list of potential volunteers

A New Idea
