Saturdays at 5pm | Sundays at 9am & 11am

As we prepare to enter into the most sacred days of the liturgical year, we have an opportunity to refocus, reflect, and renew as we wind down our Lenten journeys and look ahead to the promise of Easter. From receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation to dedicating more time to prayer, our parish has several ways to emphasize the "holy" as we approach Holy Week.

Important note: Construction has resumed on Bassett Road from the church north to Detroit Road. The city expects the project to be completed by May 16. Please use caution when driving.

Palm Sunday Procession — This Weekend

A reminder that this weekend’s Masses will begin in Cullen Hall, followed by a procession into the church.

Why Are the Statues in the Church Covered?

Covering crosses and statues with unadorned violet cloths begins on the Saturday before the 5th Sunday of Lent. They remain covered until the end of the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday.

Why are they covered? It is a symbolic act representing the “veiling” of Christ’s glory during His suffering and death — essentially signifying a period of mourning and focusing attention on the solemnity of His passion rather than the triumphant aspect of His divinity which is revealed at Easter. The covering of sacred images is a beautiful custom that can perhaps lead us to greater contemplation as we walk with Jesus through His Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Our eyes are not drawn away to other objects and we can turn our focus to the altar and inward to contemplate Christ.

On Palm Sunday, we’ll hear Luke’s account of the Passion and death of Jesus. What do the other Evangelists tell us? Father Mark will compare the four gospel narratives at next week's Theology on the Rocks — Monday, April 14, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Westside Irish American Club (8559 Jennings Road, Olmsted Township) Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. Light appetizers included. Cash bar available. Advance tickets recommended. Register online at theologyontherockswest.com
