ST. JAMES IMMIGRANT ASSISTANCE (SJIA) provides individualized support to those seeking citizenship. Maria (not her real name) had unsuccessfully applied for and was interviewed twice for U.S. citizenship before she came to SJIA for assistance. She needed significant support with her English. SJIA Legal Services and Citizenship Tutoring worked in tandem and tailored our services to support her specific needs, including extensive interview preparation so she could demonstrate her comprehension of the information on her application in English, and extra tutoring sessions to help her memorize the 100 civics questions in English and pass the English reading and writing tests. Our assistance in preparing for and representing Maria at her interview helped her gain confidence and reduced her stress so that she could put her best abilities forward at the interview. After working with SJIA, Maria was approved at her first interview, took the Oath of Allegiance the same day, and fulfilled her dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a U.S. Citizen, we can help. Information, Patrick Suhrbier psuhrbier@stjames-cathedral.org or Laura Murton lmurton@stjames-cathedral.org, 206-382-4511.

SUPPORT THE SOLANUS CASEY CENTER Named after Franciscan priest Blessed Solanus Casey, the Center (a joint ministry of Catholic Community Services and St. James Cathedral) is a walk-in referral center that provides services to the unemployed, working poor, people just released from detention, and those living on the streets, shelters, and transitional housing. The Center also offers modest financial assistance as funds allow. In particular, it is one of the few agencies in Seattle that will help pay for ID cards and provide assistance with necessary background paperwork. The Center is open Monday to Thursday, 1pm to 4pm. To volunteer, Adriana Henry, Program Manager, 206-223-0907, AdrianaH@ccsww.org.
SANDWICH MAKING MINISTRY Healthy sandwiches can be made at home and then brought to the Cathedral to share with men staying at the St. Martin de Porres Shelter. This is a great activity for families with young children, people with busy lives, and anyone who is not able to go out and serve. Information, Patrick Barredo, 206-382-4515 or pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org.
TOILETRY DONATIONS If you are traveling and staying at a hotel, consider bringing the small toiletries back to St. James. There is a donation bin located in the Cathedral Bookstore. Our St. Vincent de Paul conference packages the toiletries and distributes them to those in need. Thank you!
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU A married man and woman with young children work alternating shifts so that they can avoid the expense of childcare. When the man was let go from his job as a result of a change in management, the couple lost a major portion of their income. This resulted with the couple falling behind in paying their rent. These neighbors called the ST VINCENT DE PAUL Helpline (206-767-6449 or online https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). Thanks to your support we paid a portion of the family's rent which gave them relief from their rent debt. Happily, the man told us of a job offer that would begin in the near future. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.
