Message of the Week

Dear Parishioners, Visitors, Friends’

Today begins Holy Week. A golden opportunity for us to actively participate in the events that intimately unite us with Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Passion /Palm Sunday. We are among the crowd of people waving our palm branch as we proclaim Jesus our leader, our King. He is the One whom we will follow no matter the cost. (Place the palm branch you received today in a prominent place in your home reminding you of your Christian commitment to remain a steadfast follower of Jesus.)

Holy Thursday is the night in which Jesus gathered his friends, gave them a visual lesson on the true meaning of service. As he washed their feet, he challenged them to do the same. Then, gathering these friends around the Table, he gave them the gift of Himself—the Eucharist! (There is a place at the table reserved for you. Jesus hopes to see you seated at the Table of the Eucharist this Thursday at 5pm)

On Good Friday as s we relive the terrible events of this day—Jesus unjustly declared a criminal and nailed on a cross- we become aware of the cost we must pay to be a true follower of Jesus:

speaking truth, being the voice for the immigrant, tending to the needs of the downtrodden…

(As you venerate the Cross, ask Jesus to shower you with the courage to walk this path with him.)

Easter Sunday morning. The Tomb is empty. Together, we joyfully sing “Alleluia” promising to be a faithful community of believers, living the values for which Christ died. With open arms we welcome our newly baptized members into our community!

While we have time, let’s embrace Holy Week as an invitation from Jesus Christ to walk with him into a future filled with hope and love.

From the Pastor

In last week’s bulletin, I introduced the importance of the rich treasure of wisdom found in Catholic Social Teaching. Today I begin a seven-week series introducing the themes of the seven Catholic Social Teachings with the help of the USCCB. The first of these principles is: Life and Dignity of the Human Person.

The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This belief is the foundation of all the principles of our social teaching. In our society, human life is under attack from abortion and euthanasia. Human life is threatened by cloning, embryonic stem cell research, and the use of the death penalty. The intentional targeting of civilians in war or terrorist attacks is always wrong. Catholic teaching calls on us to work to avoid war. Nations must protect the right of life by finding effective ways to prevent conflicts and resolve them by peaceful means. We believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.

In the heart of Jesus,

Fr. Richard

Ministries Updates

The Little Mountain School

The Guatemalan Educational Outreach program provides resources for The Little Mountain School to provide 344 meals each day. Every child receives breakfast, lunch and a midday snack. For many children, these are the only meals they will receive for the rest of their day. Many families voluntarily provide fresh vegetables grown locally, however, additional funds are necessary to provide adequate protein. The parents of the children volunteer in the preparation of the meals to assist the large task of feeding the students adequate and nourishing meals.

Your sponsorship of a student assists in the tuition and meals for each student attending The Little Mountain School. All donations are appreciated. Special thanks to all our parishioners for their current sponsorships.

Please consider sponsoring a student or making a donation to The Little Mountain School. To learn more, visit guatemalaneducationaloutreach.org or view our Parish webpage (click here).

Please keep The Little Mountain School in your prayers.
