Good Friday service April 18

Join ministers from Woodmont and guest speakers from the Nashville area for an ecumenical service called “The Seven Last Words of Christ” at noon on Good Friday, April 18, with traditional liturgy and music from our chancel choir and vocal ensemble in the sanctuary. Special guests include Dr. Mike Glenn of Engaged Church Network, Dr. Adam Neder of Belmont University, and Dr. Rubel Shelly of Harpeth Hills Church of Christ.

Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, April 19

We invite you and your family to another fun egg hunt on Saturday, April 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Campbell West. We will have inflatables, ice cream from Friends Life, Nashville Coffee Cart, and of course, egg hunts! We can’t wait to celebrate!

Fifth service added this Easter

In addition to our four regular Easter services, we are doing something new this year with a fifth service downstairs!

If you get to the sanctuary for the 9:30 AM service and all the seats are full, we will have a live service for you with Woodmont staff leading live music, communion, and worship in Drowota Hall. The sermon will be streamed in from the sanctuary but everything else will be happening in the room.

Also new this year, we're asking everyone who is planning to attend the 7:00 AM sunrise service to consider bringing folding chairs due to significant growth in recent years in our expanded outdoor chapel. There is plenty of room on the grass and picnic blankets are also welcome!

Generous Hearts

by Clay Stauffer

We are now in the heart of our spring stewardship campaign with the theme “Generous Hearts.” Paul writes in II Corinthians 9: “Those who sow sparingly will also reap sparingly; those who sow generously will also reap generously…the Lord loves a cheerful giver.” I am grateful to the Barretts and Harrisons for their leadership.

During the month of April, we are asking all of our members to make a financial commitment to support Woodmont for another year. This campaign is what funds the basic ministries and operations of the church. Here are some of the reasons that we are called to give generously to the church:

•  Generosity is a significant part of being a faithful Christian.

•  Generosity is a spiritual discipline, practice, and a form of worship.

•  Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 7)

•  Together, our church can continue to spread Christ’s love to a hurting world.

•  The church is always dependent on the ongoing support of its members to function and operate.

•  Annual commitments allow us to responsibly set the operating budget in May to ensure fiscal strength.

•  Giving our financial resources away is a blessing to the giver.

•  Giving allows Woodmont to remain heavily involved in mission and outreach in the community and in the world.

This past Sunday, one of our long-time members and life elders, Dr. Gene Regen, turned 95 years old. Gene and his late wife, Elizabeth, have been pillars of leadership and generosity over the years. Gene certainly understands how important the ongoing ministries of Woodmont are. Now, halfway through his tenth decade of life, Gene continues to support this church in generous ways. He is a prime example of somebody who believes wholeheartedly in the mission and ministries of Woodmont. He knows the impact the church is making.

Between now and April 27, we are humbly asking for your support. Every single commitment allows us to move our church forward into the future. Every single commitment matters. Woodmont is a vibrant and healthy church that is changing lives daily. We continue to be a beacon of hope for this community. We are very grateful for the many generous hearts that make our mission possible!

Created for Good Works

by Moriah Domby

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

- Ephesians 2:10 ESV

We don’t always feel worthy of being called God’s workmanship, but we can all probably agree on and accept the daily need for God’s handiwork in our lives! How wonderful and awe inspiring to think that God designed each of us with good works in mind and even at our worst, sees the potential he laid within us to participate in his plan. Our faith in Christ breaks open abilities we can’t achieve by our own efforts. It opens a door for him to move through us. Thank you Jesus!

Created for good works, we have a responsibility to walk in them. Everything we do is an opportunity to either go through the motions or let our lives be an act of worship. The words we choose to speak, the attitudes we carry, the attentiveness we hold to God’s voice, the compassion we demonstrate for those in need, the care we show our own temple, our obedience to God’s guidance and word, the way we steward our resources, all of it. With that mindset, even doing the laundry can be an act of worship if done with gratitude and a servant’s heart!

This week, let’s all practice our belief that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, and then let’s walk in those works. Let’s accept the potential our lives hold and use all we have available to and within us as a response to God’s generosity and glory. And to test that we are on the right path, in each step of the walk, let us follow our holy leader.

Spiritual Gifts & Strengths class begins April 21

Whether you’re a new member of Woodmont, a seasoned member, or somewhere in between, we want you to know the joy of serving God through employing your spiritual gifts, augmented by using your ministry strengths, so that you can find deep joy in your discipleship!

The first week of this class will provide an opportunity to name your spiritual gifts for the first time, or, if you’ve been working with your gifts already, to focus on nurturing them and expanding them further. We’ll explore some spiritual practices that help undergird our gifts, and we’ll hear from folks who have been successful in putting their gifts to work as we begin to make plans for doing the same.

The second two weeks of our class will center on understanding our ministry strengths. We will use the Gallup Clifton Strengths Finder as a very fruitful and customized way to understand our unique blend of strengths. We’ll look at how to nurture our strengths and how to pair them with our gifts so that we are fulfilling our call to ministry in deeply satisfying and effective ways.

The class will be led by Beth Pattillo, Jay Hutchens, and Tammy Morgan! We’ll start at 5:45 PM on Monday, April 21, and meet for three weeks in Room 105. Since there are a couple of things to do before class begins, please register at tinyurl.com/y2fjukjt

Also, dinner is included – your RSVP helps us make sure we have (more than) enough for everyone!

Questions? Let us know. Reach out to Tammy at tammy@woodmontcc.org, Beth at bethpattillo@gmail.com, or Jay at jayhutchens@woodmontcc.org.

"Finding Hope in (Peri)Menopause" April 22

Get answers. Get relief. Get hope!

Woodmont will be hosting a symposium with three of Nashville's leading doctors on Tuesday, April 22, at 6:30 PM in Carpenter Chapel.

The (Peri)Menopause transition for women presents many uncomfortable changes, symptoms, and challenges in mind, body, and spirit. Thankfully, the medical community is taking women’s desire to flourish during this period seriously. It still remains hard to know what is safe, true, and healthy. The hope of the evening is to give you answers about HRT, discuss the risks of breast cancer, and offer tangible suggestions for relief!

Dr. Sarah Flury is a urologist with over 20 years of experience in the medical field. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and is an assistant professor at Vanderbilt.

Dr. Vandana Abramson is an oncologist and professor of medicine at Vanderbilt, where she also serves as co-leader for the breast cancer research program and is a breast cancer disease team leader. She received her medical degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years.

Dr. Katherine Haney is an obstetrician-gynecologist and the founder and president of HaneyGYN, a local practice that offers a full range of gynecology services. She holds a medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and has also been in practice for over 20 years.

Montgomery Legacy Sites trip

 April 5-6

Around 25 Woodmont members visited the Legacy Museum Sites in Montgomery, Alabama, this past weekend. The trip was organized by Woodmont's Prison Ministry team leaders, Rhonda Phillippi and Rob Quinn, and Racial Bridges leaders Karen Woolridge and Bob Faricy.

Karen Wooldridge tours the Memorial at the Peace and Justice Center.

Trip participants enjoy dinner and debrief their experiences at the Legacy Museum Sites!

Prison Ministry meets this Sunday

Our next Prison Ministry team meeting is this Sunday, April 13, in the boardroom at 8:00 AM.

The Prison Ministry is currently developing a plan for practical support to inmates and their families. Some ministry options include visiting prisoners, connecting with an inmate by writing letters, and assisting families to be able to visit their incarcerated family members. The ultimate mission is to reflect God's grace and remind all that no one is beyond God's reach.
