We swing from joyful shouts to acts of humble service to betrayal to grief to the possibility of hope. So many times this past year I have wanted to fast forward or to pretend everything was okay. Holy Week teaches that fast forwarding and pretending everything is okay betrays the fact that following Jesus takes us through all of it. Hope isn't just the empty tomb; hope is in the shouts of joy, in the face of suffering; hope is pouring out whatever you've got for another; hope is the words spoken from the cross.
God of hope and resurrection life, we meet this week with anticipation of the joy and dread of the sadness. Show us once again how You sent Your Son to accompany us through it all. In Jesus' name, Amen.
