It's Your Home & School Club -- Join us!

We'v e changed the format of the HSC monthly meetings to make it less daunting for everyone to join us. In the first half of the meeting we cover those items that directly affect our entire community, and for the second half we get down into the nitty-gritty for those of us that can't get enough of engaging in  Robert's Rules of Order . It's  your  HSC, and we would love to see you there for any portion.
"For the Kids" CUHSD Land Development Initiative
IMPORTANT - your support is critical.

Thirty seconds of your time can help generate $1.5 million of unrestricted, ongoing annual revenue that will help offset Campbell Union High School District's budget shortfall due to a California state mandate to increase retirement contributions that will more than double in ten years.
PROTECT STUDENT PROGRAMS by supporting the "For the Kids" land development initiative. Please sign a letter of support asking the City of San Jose to approve the district's request to rezone a small portion of their land. Friends, family, students of any age and location can sign. The Leigh Home & School Club has endorsed this re-development.

Ongoing Construction at LHS

The construction on campus is moving right along and the progress has been impressive. View this time lapse video to see the slab pour for Leigh's new two story classroom building. It took about 50 concrete trucks arriving 5 minutes apart! Visit the District site to see progress pictures »

A Report from our Teachers

Ms. Celeste Smiley is the teacher rep for Home & School Club. At each meeting, she shares what is happening in the classrooms and other general info related to the teachers. Here's this month's teacher's report »
Annual Giving Drive: Please donate

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our Annual Giving drive to date! We truly appreciate it. If you have not yet had a chance to donate, you can donate online or place a check in the Home & School Club mailbox at the Leigh front office. Thank you so much for making a difference at Leigh!

What do we do with your money? We're glad you asked! We have a lot of plans for the 2018/19 school year and would love to see you at our monthly HSC meetings to talk about them.

Here's how we spent your money this month:

  • $550 registration fee for Science Olympiad Green Team for the Santa Clara Regional Competition
  • $190 for Staff Appreciation
  • A $6,000 anonymous donation was made this month for the HSC to use where needed most. After meeting with Principal Butler, the HSC voted to put the money towards science and technology, with half going towards science materials, and half being used to purchase computers.

Information on programs funded during prior years can be found  here .
Double (or even triple!) your Donation with Corporate Matching

Many local companies offer matching donations to school organizations. If you avail of this program you can double or triple your donation to Leigh Home and School Club! Many companies also donate cash to match your volunteer hours contributed to the school.  To date we have received $3,952 in corporate matching donations. Thank you to everyone who has participated in this program!

Please check with the HR department at your company to see if it has a matching donations program. Our Tax ID: #77-0199809. Click   here  for more information and to see a list of companies that offer this program (it is not a complete list - if you do not see your company on this list, please do check with your HR dept).
Adult Volunteers Needed for AVID

AVID is a national program that provides academic, social and emotional support to students who want to apply to college and succeed there but need additional support. AVID teachers provide scaffolded lessons to students around organization, note taking and study skills. AVID curriculum also includes tutorial time when students are supported in their academic course work.

It is helpful to have adult volunteers in the AVID classroom to help with tutorial and other activities. In return, the adult volunteers learn the tenets of the AVID program and how the ideas of growth mindset and student inquiry can take root in a high school and help all of the students.

Please email Bari Sholomon at bsholomon@cuhsd.org or Amanda Borges at aborges@cuhsd.org for more information.
We Love our Teachers and Staff!
This month our Staff Appreciation Team and their parent volunteers provided donuts and coffee to the staff, and decorated the teachers' lounge with a little seasonal fun. The staff will also get some sweet surprises for Halloween!
Thank you!

Every single one of our parents and teachers deserve individual kudos for everything they do. As a Home and School Club, we are appreciative of every effort of every volunteer. Here are a few thank you's to get us started...

  • Thank you to an anonymous donor for a generous $6,000 donation which is being used for science materials and new computers.

  • Melissa and Dave Schwartz were instrumental in bringing the ANGST documentary and panel discussion to Leigh and our community. They also donated $500 to cover the costs of the panelists. Over 150 people gathered on October 18 to watch the movie and take part in this important event. Thank you!

  • Thank you to Eve Walton, community support coordinator for For the Kids, for helping coordinate a presentation at Leigh on the District budget and the Land Initiative. Additional thanks to CUHSD Superintendent Dr. Robert Bravo, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Nancy Pfeiffer, and to CUHSD Board members Stacey Brown and Linda Goytia for coming to Leigh to present to parents.
