Saturday, October 9th, 9:00am- 1:00pm

Please join us for a day of making Leigh beautiful! Come by for an hour or for the entire time. We will be weeding, planting and cleaning up campus. Show your Longhorn pride and help make campus beautiful!

A task list will be available that day and you can choose what chores you would like to do.

Parents and students welcome and encouraged to join in the fun. RSVP is not mandatory but is appreciated. Students can earn volunteer hours. Many hands make light work!

Please bring labeled garden tools and gloves (shovels, hoe, weeding tools etc.)

Hope to see you there! Any questions, contact our HSC Beautification Chairs, Kelly, Ashleigh, Lara and Tamiko, at beautification@leighhsc.org

  • Volunteer Coordinator Angie Lu is working to connect people who have signed up to volunteer with the committees that interest them. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help! If you would like to see where you can help, check out our volunteer opportunities.

  • Mental Health Support coordinator Kristin Welter and her team are in the process of creating a Wellness Center at Leigh. A room has been dedicated for this space, and Kristin is working closely with Leigh Administration to set up the room for our students.

  • Grad Night team (Amy Hogg, Alexis Hoekstra, Chris Weitz, Kristina Williams, Kris Suzuki) has secured the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for June 2nd, 2022. Leigh will have its own separate, chaperoned section of the boardwalk with lots of activities starting at 10pm on the night of graduation. Grad Night is a way to provide a safe, fun activity for our Seniors on the night of graduation.

  • Staff Appreciation team (Amanda Bierly, Alexis Hoekstra, Amy Sells, and our many parent volunteers) hosted a Welcome Back coffee for the teachers and staff. A staff luncheon is planned for September 9. The Staff Appreciation team sent out a SignupGenius link to their volunteers for people to sign up to help with the luncheon. If you would like to receive this sign up link and any future sign ups for staff appreciation needs, please select the staff appreciation option on the HSC volunteer form

  • Campus Beautification team (Kelly Masini, Ashleigh Coffeng, Tamiko House, and Lara Blom) is planning a Campus Clean Up day on October 9th! Volunteers are needed to weed, plant and clean up our campus. Everyone is welcome (students can earn volunteer time)! Many hands make light work. Sign up to help on Campus Clean Up Day!

  • The Annual Longhorn Stampede, a 5K run/walk through our local neighborhood, is scheduled for May 21, 2022. Save the date! The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for our community to come together - students, parents, staff, neighbors, friends, friends of friends, alumni, future Leigh families, and local businesses. Whether you are a walker, a casual jogger, distance runner, or just want to cheer on the participants, come join our community! This event is a collaboration between Home & School Club, PAPA, Sports Boosters, and Spirit Boosters. Learn more and see photos from our previous Stampede.

Have questions, comments, suggestions on anything HSC-related?
Please contact us at president@leighhsc.org.

The College and Career Center (CCC) provides resources for students and parents in their explorations of post-high school opportunities. Our College and Career Specialist, Nathalie Goricanec, collaborates with Leigh's school counselors and administrators to provide college and career support for all of our students. Mrs. Goricanec is supported by a team of parent volunteers. To sign up to help in the CCC, please select the CCC option on the HSC volunteer form.

The CCC helps students with career advice, college advice, college applications, college fairs, and using the Naviance college planning and career assessment tool. Mrs. Goricanec also hosts College Representatives who speak about their respective colleges - twice daily through the Fall, as well as speakers about various career pathways. She also coordinates PSAT and NMSQT (National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test) testing. This years's PSAT/NMSQT is October 16th (student registration form). Student internships and volunteer opportunities are also available through the CCC.

The HSC Staff Appreciation Team provided muffins and coffee for a Back to School Breakfast for our teachers and staff.

Our booster clubs – Home & School Club, PAPA, Spirit and Sports – had a great experience sharing information and selling Leigh swag at the football season opener on August 27. Thanks to all our volunteers and to every parent, guardian, student and community member who came by!

The theme of this particular football game was "The Green Game" – green is the color for Mental Health Awareness to end the stigma surrounding mental health. Leigh's student club "Bring Change to Mind" organized for a guest speaker at halftime who discussed mental health statistics and talked about how nobody is alone. The club also had an information table at the game hosted by students, the club's teacher advisor, Ms. Smiley, and our Leigh CASSY Counselor (Counseling and Support Services for Youth), Laura Egli. The mission of the Bring Change to Mind Club is to end the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness. At club meetings, students work together to increase awareness about mental illness in our school and the greater community. Any student can join this club.

Did you miss the first HSC President’s Coffee of the new school year on August 26th? Here are a few highlights from the questions that were discussed:

I signed up to volunteer but haven’t heard from anyone yet?

  • Volunteer signups have been provided to committee chairs. Some committees need time at the beginning of the year to put processes in place (like the College and Career Center). Please allow a few more weeks for contact from the committee chairs. Contact president@leighhsc.org if you would like further details. If you have not had a chance to sign up to volunteer, click here to check out our volunteer opportunities.

Student Life / ASB; Where does a student pick up items purchased with one of the ASB packages:

  • A great way to keep up with events at Leigh is to opt-in to receive the student weekly bulletin. Go to this link and fill out the Parent Opt-In Form on the right side to subscribe: https://leigh.cuhsd.org/apps/pages/StudentDailyAnnouncements. It will be available soon!
  • The package sales closed on Friday 8/20, and the order for the clothing will be placed shortly after that. Announcements will be made for students to pick up their ASB items once the order arrives.

Student Photos: When are photo retakes?

  • September 17th, same time as make up pictures.

PE clothing: How do students receive their PE clothes?

  • Clothing ordered over the summer will be mailed to your home. Students who purchased them at school should take their receipt to their PE teacher to get their clothing.

When is Club Day?

  • Club Day is coming to Leigh on September 3rd! You can review existing clubs on the school website before Club Day. This gives you an opportunity to see what types of clubs Leigh has and review them with your student to help them get ready for Club Day. https://leigh.cuhsd.org/apps/pages/ClubsAndOrganizations

How do students learn about Volunteer Opportunities?

How do I purchase tickets for football games?

  • You can purchase tickets at the gate/door for all Leigh sports games. Gate fees are $8.00 for regular admission and $6.00 for Senior Citizens. Kids 12 and younger are $1.
  • Season passes are available for $100 online. This is for a family of four, and is good for the entire school year for any Athletic event held at Leigh where admission is charged: https://leighwebstore.com/Athletic-Gate-Pass_p_223.html

Where can I find the A/B Calendar?

Is the Annual Giving Drive an event, or is it an on-going fundraiser?

  • The Annual Giving Drive is the Home & School Club’s primary fundraiser, and it is on-going. We hope to get most of our donations at the beginning of the year so that we know we can accomplish our funding goals, but we are happy to accept donations throughout the year. You can donate online here: https://leighhsc.org/donate/ or you can donate by check (make payable to Leigh Home & School Club. Mail to: Leigh Home & School Club, 5210 Leigh Ave, San Jose, CA 95124). Learn more about programs we have funded in the past here: https://leighhsc.org/program-funding/.
  • Tax receipts for the Annual Giving Drive will be emailed to donors, but please contact the HSC Treasurer at treasurer@leighhsc.org if you need an expedited donation receipt in order to access company matching funds.

Does the Home & School Club participate in Amazon Smile?

  • Leigh does participate in the Amazon Smile Program, and this is an easy way to raise additional funds for our Home & School Club. Use Amazon Smile and a % of your purchase automatically comes back to Leigh HSC. Shop at smile.amazon.com/ch/77-0199809 or with AmazonSmile ON in the app.

Naviance, what is it and how does it help?

  • Naviance is a program that allows parents and students to access college and career information efficiently. Students can perform detailed searches of colleges and universities, research scholarships, complete questionnaires useful for college and career planning, view historical data from our school for students who have applied in past years & an acceptance history of Leigh graduates at individual colleges. More info and access: https://leigh.cuhsd.org/apps/pages/ParentPortals

What is the difference between Leigh Home & School Club, Sports Boosters, Spirit Boosters & PAPA (Performing Arts Parents’ Association)?

  • Leigh Home & School Club - supports academic and social/emotional programs for the entire student population
  • Sports Boosters - supports the students participating in athletic teams at Leigh, providing funds for items that benefit all athletes or teams that may need special equipment for their sport
  • Spirit Boosters - supports the athletes participating in Leigh cheerleading, both the competition teams and the event cheerleaders
