Construction Update
  • Things continue to progress nicely. The pool is almost finished. The main office renovation is on schedule. Some of the seismic retrofit work has been finished, and some of the walkway work has been finished too. Benches in the quad that are rusted are being replaced with new benches. We are sourcing shade sails that would be placed around the edges of the quad. We’ll be adding some colorful murals around campus; a group of students will start a mural over February break (art supplies funded by Home & School Club). New library furniture is starting to come in (funded by Home & School Club). We also plan to create a Wellness Center where students can avail of a safe and supportive space; this is still in the planning stages.

Coffee with the Principal - Recordings available
  • Additional coffee sessions are in the works with Mrs. Butler and our Assistant Principals, so please continue to read Ms. Butler's weekly bulletins to be notified about dates and times. Recordings of past events can be found on the Parents & Community page on the school website.

Highlights from CUHSD Board President Kalen Gallagher
  • We are still in Phase 1 (distance learning). The CUHSD Board is planning to reevaluate this in late February or early March.
  • With regard to PPE, the district has acquired sufficient PPE to reopen, so this won’t be a roadblock to returning to in-person instruction.
  • To date, the district has not heard much from the county regarding vaccinations for teachers.
  • The Governor’s plan for returning students to school is for TK-6th grade students; the Governor did not include high schools in that plan.
  • With regard to summer school, the district is planning to have summer school at all school sites this summer. The focus will be on credit recovery.

  • During the January 21 Regular Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved Superintendent Bravo's recommendation to remain in Level 1: Distance Learning + Limited In-Person Supports and reconsider moving to Levels 2 and/or Level 3 at the end of February/Early March. To read the full plan and more information on each level, click here.

  • Read email updates from our District Superintendent, Dr Bravo. The District's January Community newsletter is available here. Copies of past emails are available here.

Do you work at a company that offers grants to non-profits?

Mental wellness is the foundation of social emotional learning and is critical for our students to be able to thrive in today’s challenging environments. To give our Leigh students much-needed tools to learn about mental wellness, our Leigh Admin has partnered with the HAERT Program for the 2020-21 school year.

The HSC has partially funded this program and are in the process of raising additional funds through corporate donations to cover the remaining cost. If you work at a company that offers grants to nonprofits, we’re asking for your support to secure corporate funding that will help cover the program cost.

Please check your company website, or reach out to your HR department or your Community Outreach department, to determine if your company offers grants to non-profits (Leigh Home & School Club is a 501(c)(3)). If they do, please connect with us at haertfundraising@leighhsc.org and we will provide the necessary information and help walk you through the process.
