Highlights from Principal Kara Butler
|
- Due to new California legislation, all students can now receive free lunch. Approximately 600 students are availing of this each day. In previous years, lunch was served to approximately 50 students per day, so staff is getting the new logistics worked out to ensure that all our students are able to get through the lunch line in a timely fashion.
- The Minimum Days observed during late September allowed our teachers to take part in Social Justice training.
-
Leigh has a new, easy to use, 24-hour online tutoring service called Paper Tutoring. For anyone who needs additional help to use the tool, staff are working on creating an instructional video. When that is available it will be shared on the school website and communicated through our various channels.
- Leigh has a new online reporting system called StopIt, which is an anonymous reporting system for student concerns. It is a two-way system allowing the school administration to communicate with the student who reported the information, while allowing the student to remain anonymous. This way, if the school needs more information in order to act on the report, they can reach out to the student to get that information.
- Landscaping in front of the main office is almost complete, and the staff lounge and restrooms are almost ready. The teacher workroom is already being used, and a refrigerator is coming soon so the teachers can store their lunches.
- All grass at Leigh is watered with non-potable recycled water.
- Please have a discussion with your students about the “devious licks” TikTok challenge that challenges students to record videos of themselves stealing items from their school. Leigh has had some issues with people stealing items from the bathrooms. This costs Leigh money (some of the stolen items are expensive to replace), and also take up staff time.

2ND ANNUAL KYLE J TAYLOR FOUNDATION YOUTH HEART SCREENING
Saturday, October 2nd, 9:00am- 4:00pm
Leigh is hosting our second Kyle J. Taylor Foundation Youth Heart Screening on Saturday, October 2nd in the Leigh gym. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading killers of teenagers whether they are athletes or not. Our FamLeigh lost 2017 graduate Kyle Taylor to SCA in 2018. We want to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
Sign up for a free screening, and to complete the information needed prior to the screening. Space is limited, so don't wait to reserve your spot. This is open to youth ages 12-25. Students will have an EKG administered by a licensed medical professional. If further information is needed, families will be referred to their physician.
Volunteers are also needed to help with check-in, check-out and greet participants. Sign up to volunteer.
If you have any additional questions regarding the screening, please reach out to the Kyle J. Taylor Foundation at kylejtaylorfoundation@gmail.com.
