Homesharer

The season of giving thanks is almost upon us and we want to be the first ones to thank you for being an essential member of our homesharing family. Without your active voice, participation and engagement to culturally normalize homesharing, our community would not be as impactful, vibrant and thriving as it is.

Our team is thankful for being able to serve more than 670 homeowners and over 1,250 homeseekers across our beautiful state. We work diligently each day to extend our support and services to anyone in search of a housemate. Thank you to each of our incredible donors for your ongoing generosity and devotion to our mission.

The humanitarian crisis of homelessness is real in Oregon. Earlier this week, we marked the World Homelessness Day. The number of people in need of a place to live is at an overwhelming high - we see it daily in our neighborhoods. And we can do something right now to alleviate the issue. We can homeshare. The mission of Home Share Oregon is to expand access to affordable housing through home sharing. We believe that this is a direct way to prevent housing instability, foreclosure, and homelessness.

At Home Share Oregon (HSO), we envision a world in which every person has a clean, safe home, a world where home sharing is normalized as a lifestyle preference, and homelessness is uprooted. And we can't do it without you. If you haven't already, please consider homesharing and donating to our cause.

I am pleased to share that Home Share Oregon requested legislation to incentivize the home share concept. Working with our state legislators, Home Share Oregon has proposed:

"Homeowners who are willing to home share, long-term, charging $1,000 or less per month, are absolved from state income tax liability on the earned income."

We'd love for you to endorse this initiative, you can do so here.

Enjoy reading select recent updates from HSO. In this newsletter issue, we bring you an inspiring video from homesharers Brenda, Gayle and Dana.
Warm Regards,
Tess Fields,
Executive Director, Home Share Oregon
HSO's New Homesharing Ally: Meals on Wheels
As many of you know, Home Share Oregon works with 60+ various organizations who support our cause. The latest addition to a plethora of leading changemakers - HSO's Homesharing Allies, is the amazing nonprofit Meals on Wheels. Thanks to a generous donation from the Oregon Community Foundation, Home Share Oregon and Meals on Wheels have created a collaborative free service that is designed to support our seniors. The direct link between HSO's homesharing services and Meals on Wheels is an opportunity to prevent houselessness for our seniors who are often times our most vulnerable and valuable community members.

The Home Share Oregon Team is Growing! Welcome, Lupine.

Lupine DeSnyder, pronouns she/her, recently joined our team as the point of contact for our homesharers in the Portland Metro Area. Lupine has deep roots in Portland as a trainer and advocate for seniors’ healthy living. With over 20 years of professional experience in the private, non-profit and government settings, she is especially passionate about bringing needed resources to the historically-underserved-community members.
"As I immerse myself in getting to know Oregon’s homesharing community, I am really enjoying connecting people who are seeking affordable housing with homeowners wishing to share their living space. It is inspiring to be a part of the growing community of persons invested in sharing their homes to create a social, sustainable and secure living environment for all." - Lupine
