Member's experience: Spitalfields, central London swap
London's fantastic Spitalfields neighbourhood "We visited London and swapped homes with Hana's lovely cosy apartment in central London's Spitalfields. The apartment is in a fantastic location, just a couple of minutes walk to London's Liverpool Street station. We really love London and it was great to show it to our toddler who was very happy.  It was so nice to feel at home even while abroad.

Hana was very friendly and we exchanged many messages in the build up to our swap. She left our apartment incredibly clean and tidy. Thank you Hana! " - Ilaria

Highlights of the home exchange:
  1. Fantastic location of the apartment
  2. Hana's friendliness
  3. Lovely London

Home swap Q&A: preparing your home for a home swap
Leave a nice welcome pack for your guests Q: I'm very interested in doing a house swap via Home Base Holidays. What state does your home need to be in to do this? I know that it needs to be comfortable, liveable and functional (my home is all of these things), furnished (it is that too); however it is also full of my family's personal stuff. To what extent is the property meant to be devoid of this? - Gill

A: Some members offer second or holiday homes, however, the vast majority of members list the home that they live in. Home Base Holidays  members will expect to be staying in a real home rather than a generic rental or hotel room. Therefore, just make sure that your home is clean and tidy, extra clean bedding and towels are available, your fridge is cleaned (but leave basic foodstuffs like milk, butter, bread). Extra tip: put together a welcome pack for your guests to explain how things work, local attractions, recommended restaurants, transport information and emergency numbers.
GuardHog: insurance for the home sharing market
It is important to make sure your home insurance covers the period that your guests will be staying in your home. Insurers unfamiliar with home swapping have been known to refuse cover.

Therefore, we are delighted to introduce GuardHog  - an insurance specifically created for the sharing economy.  GuardHog provides top up cover in addition to your own home insurance for the period that your guests will be staying in your home. It's a very flexible and reasonably priced service where you only pay for the nights that your guests will be in your home. It covers among others, things such as accidental damage, theft by unforced entry, and public liability.
