Among the responsibilities all of us share is to help those born into a relatively peaceful world understand that the individual freedoms we enjoy were hard-fought successes and are sustained every day with immeasurable sacrifice. I have three college-age children that fit this definition and were born into a civilian household. By contrast, my father was a military police officer and was stationed in Japan at the end of World War II.
