HomeAid Atlanta worked on seven projects in 2023 with the goals of adding 57 beds for veterans and women in recovery; creating space for girls escaping sex trafficking to heal and learn; adding a more secure meeting space for family visits for girls in foster care, and providing for homeownership opportunities.
Homeownership is a significant milestone for many people. It provides a sense of stability, security, and pride of ownership. According to the National Association of REALTORS®, homeownership correlates to higher educational achievement, civic engagement, better health and happiness, and lower crime.
Once considered one of the most affordable metro areas, Atlanta and its metro area were officially deemed unaffordable for the average buyer according to the Federal Reserve’s 2022 index. HomeAid Atlanta and partners are doing something about it. HomeAid completed the Gwinnett Housing Corporation (GHC) Homeownership Resource Center (shown here) to help potential homeowners learn about affordable housing in Gwinnett County.
Led by 2023 HomeAid Atlanta Builder of the Year Adam Paterson, Lennar Area Construction Manager (see 2023 Award Winners story below), the project was completed on June 5. Prior to HomeAid's transformation, the Homeowner Resource Center was a dilapidated vacant home in downtown Norcross. Now, GHC's Homeowner Resource Center is offering educational resources for families of low to moderate income seeking homeownership in Gwinnett County. Programs include housing counseling, referrals for down payment assistance, access to non-profit developers, lenders, owner-occupied rehabilitation, and home modification activities. "It's nothing short of remarkable to know that this completed facility will provide Gwinnett residents with the opportunity to obtain the coveted dream of home ownership,” said Tom Bowers, Lennar Atlanta Division President.
HomeAid's work is made possible thanks to partnerships with generous companies like Lennar who join us in today's complicated struggle to make housing attainable for all, so that all of our neighbors can find a place to call home for the holidays.
