Travel Q&A: preparing your home for a home swap
Q: I'm very interested in home swapping but I'm not sure how to prepare my home. Should I remove any of my family's belongings prior to a swap? - Gill
A:Members know that they will be staying in a real home rather than a hotel room. So just make sure that your home is clean and tidy and that extra bedding and towels are available. There is no need to remove any belongings although, for peace of mind, some members do lock away some personal items in a drawer or room. More info..
Extra tip: make a welcome pack for your guests to explain how things work, local attractions, recommended restaurants, transport information, emergency numbers and maybe a local treat!
Trip report: wonderful exchange in British Columbia
"We had a wonderful non-simultaneous home swap with Emma and her family. They came to our London home first and I think they possibly left our house even cleaner than we left it for them!
Our trip to Canada was very exciting. Emma not only ensured her lovely home was perfect for our arrival but lots of written out suggestions about local sites and activities, where to eat and swim and buy the best food. It made our week in West Vancouver go perfectly and I would recommend without hesitation both the host and the destination.
Thanks Emma for a memorable trip of a lifetime!"
