Project Updates
The slab has been poured at Gigi's House (photo, left)! The concrete and labor are generously provided by Ernst Concrete. Gigi's House in Clayton County is dedicated to serving girls ages 13-19 who are victims of sex trafficking, providing a safe home in a faith-based, loving environment, trauma-informed therapy, home school, mentoring, life skills, and more.

HomeAid is currently helping construct a new building at Gateway Domestic Violence Shelter, adding 55 beds for women fleeing domestic violence, plus rooms for support groups, a dining room, offices, laundry, kitchen, overnight staff bedroom, storage, computer lab, quiet common rooms, lobby, and playroom. This project is expected to wrap up in late spring. Design2Sell will donate services and furniture items to help decorate a Teen Counseling Room and a family lobby/living space.

HomeAid Atlanta’s renovation project for Ascensa Health at St. Jude’s Women’s Recovery Home will soon kick-off, with immense gratitude to the architects at BLUR Workshop and Builder Captain Bradley Hall of Hall Design Build. The project will provide much needed updates to the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as creating a new laundry space, plus overall improvements. When complete, the house will be home to 9 to 11 women working to rebuild their lives after overcoming addiction.
New Volunteer Opportunities
Join A HomeAid Task Force

We're looking for volunteers for our Essentials Drive and CareKits Task Forces!

The Essentials Drive Task Force kicks off soon and supports the 2022 Essentials Drive to collect diapers and baby wipes for families in need. The Essentials Drive Task Force commitment will last through the Essentials Drive, which wraps up the first week in May.

The CareKits Task Force supports our CareKits initiative: packing and distributing hygiene kits to organizations that serve people experiencing homelessness. We're looking for individuals with great ideas to help expand and enhance this program.

Volunteers Care for the Community
Juneau Construction Company Care Day
Juneau Construction Company at Trinity Community Ministries on January 28.
On January 28, volunteers from Juneau Construction Company joined HomeAid Atlanta for a Care Day at Trinity Community Ministries for a major painting workday, transforming two hallways, a laundry room, and a workout room. Located in the Sweet Auburn District of downtown Atlanta, Trinity Community Ministries’ (Trinity) mission is to help homeless men reclaim their lives and return to their families and communities as mentors and leaders. The new paint provides a calming, unified look throughout the historic building. Volunteers also replaced numerous damaged ceiling tiles.

This Care Day was the second of two Care Days at Trinity. In November 2021, several groups partnered with HomeAid to kick off the transformation.
Who HomeAid Helps

HomeAid is grateful to partner with organizations like Trinity Community Ministries whose transformational programs and services bring about incredible success stories! We recently wrapped up work at Trinity, completing major painting tasks and much more (click to learn more). For more than 30 years, Trinity has helped men turn their lives around thanks to the structure and support they provide.

Dr. Bakari Vickerson's success story is a testament to the powerful work happening at Trinity. Atlanta native Dr. Vickerson entered Trinity when he was only 16 years old. With support from Trinity, he was able to get his GED and attend Morehouse College. Today, he serves as the intake psychiatrist at Grady Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic and Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine at Morehouse College. Dr. Vickerson, also a former board member at Trinity, regularly gives back by providing mental health support, medication, and counseling services to current Trinity clients.

Toll Brothers Care Day

As part of Toll Brothers’ national commitment to giving back to the community, local divisions and departments are encouraged to bring employees together on an annual basis to participate in a day of community service to give back to local charities with which they feel a connection.

On February 11, volunteers from Toll Brothers Atlanta Urban joined HomeAid for a Care Day at Covenant House Georgia. Volunteers painted an extensive hallway in the youth shelter and assembled six new picnic tables for the courtyard. Covenant House Georgia serves youth experiencing homelessness with unconditional love and absolute respect, while providing immediate needs, education and vocational skills. Facility updates like these make a big difference in the outlook of youth residing in the shelter.

This was HomeAid's second Care Day with Toll Brothers this year. On January 18, Toll Brothers Alpharetta employees joined HomeAid at The Drake Village in Roswell for the first HomeAid Care Day of the year.

Farewell to Jean Hilyard
After 10 years of service to HomeAid Atlanta, Jean Hilyard is moving on with her career at the end of this month. She has held multiple positions at HomeAid including Executive Director. She joined HomeAid in 2012 at a crucial time as the industry was emerging from the Great Recession. Under Jean’s leadership, HomeAid grew its Care Day efforts and in 2014, completed the first major project since having to pull back from large scale projects in 2010. Most recently, in addition to serving as Director of Project Development, Jean was almost single-handedly responsible for developing the Salesforce database that all 19 HomeAid Affiliates nationwide now use. Her passion and heart are irreplaceable. We appreciate all the ways that Jean has helped build a future without homelessness with HomeAid Atlanta.

Thank you Jean! We will miss you!
