Sweet Home 2023:
"The 5G Church"
We Gather, We Group, We Grow, We Go, We Give
|
|
From the Pastor:
The first quarter of the year is over, and God has not disappointed! With His strong hand, He continues to lead, guide, and direct us to higher heights. We must remain cautious that we heed His voice and His voice only.
In this season we will continue to seek to lift the level of our discipleship individually and corporately. To do this, we must spend time both worshipping and working. Therefore, I am asking each of you to join us in Church-At-Study each Tuesday at 6:30pm, The Word On Wednesdays at 6:30pm, and call in on the Prayer Line each Monday and Thursday at 7am and 7pm.
Please know that if you have any ideas or submissions, you can send them to us at info@sweethomembcgary.org.
In Anticipation of Greater,
Marlon C. Mack, Sr., Senior Pastor

Member Spotlight:
Rev. Johnny Henderson
The Member Spotlight for the month of April is Rev. Johnny Henderson!
Rev. Henderson, also known as Sis. Rachel's church neighbor, is our Minister of Worship Ministries. He is also active in our Men's Ministry.
Romans 8:28 is Rev. Henderson's favorite scripture because, "it helps me deal with whatever issues or controversy, as well as the good things that happen to me. It gives me hope and helps build my faith."
He is a 1993 graduate of Lew Wallace High School, and a 1997 graduate of Purdue University. Licensed to teach elementary education and specializing in mathematics education, Rev. Henderson has been working for the Gary Community School Corporation for 27 years. When he isn't preaching or teaching, he coaches and is a District 1 umpire. His love for coaching and baseball is how he met our Pastor over 20 years ago!
When storms of life come his way, Rev. Henderson goes back to his favorite scripture. In addition to that, he looks back at past storms and reflects on how God brought him through those. "So, I just believe that if He did it then, He is able to do it again!"
As far as maintaining his faith goes, he had this to say: "It helps to have a very loving church family, who I can call on for help, advice, and sometimes have someone vent to. I definitely am grateful for people who will pray for and with me. Sweet Home has been awesome to me and my family."
When he wants to encourage others, Rev. Henderson shares Philippians 4:13, knowing that anything is truly possible with God. His closing remark for the readers is this:
"Life is what we make it. Positive thinking and positive energy creates a positive attitude and our attitude determines our altitude."

"ARE YOU SAVED?"
Growing up in church, you often hear the question “Are you saved?”. Really think about that... are you saved? Romans 10:9 says “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” The work doesn’t just end once we confess. As Christians we have to work daily to be more like Christ. Part of that work is realizing that none of us (no matter how long we’ve been saved) are perfect. You can’t be saved unless you were in something you needed saving from. When we forget what WE are/were in, we end up judging others. Jesus didn’t die on the cross for us to then turn our backs on people who haven't come to Him yet. Being saved is not a pass to treat unsaved people like they are beneath you. It is a responsibility to bring those unsaved people to Christ too. Remember each day what YOU were saved from and look forward to embracing those that will be saved.
