From the Pastor:
Sweet Home Family, God continues to do “exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or think according to the power that is at work in us.” YES, HE’S ABLE! He is constant and consistent in His compassionate care of us, as He protects us from dangers seen and unseen, enemies and foes, and yes, even ourselves.
Last month we completed our second year of being a site for the Northwest Summer Learning Labs. We would like to thank and commend the family members of Sweet Home who worked with the youth of the community, Site Director; Min. Debra Fomby, Tech Specialist, Min. Stephanie Harden, Teacher Assistants Mae Weatherspoon and Deacon John Moore.
We also want to thank our Minister of Christian Education, Rev. Beauty Ervin and Superintendent of Christian Education, Gail Mangum, for the joint Vacation Bible School with Israel Metropolitan CME, where their Pastor is Rev. Octavious Wilson. Israel's instructors are Rev. Monte Williams, Rev. Denise Carnegye, Monte Williams, and Ernestine Williams; Sweet Home's instructors are Min. Stephanie Harden, Rev. Beauty Ervin, Sis. Juanita Adams, Deacon John Moore, and Pastor Mack.
I am excited about Women’s Weekend in August! The SASSY Ministry of Sweet Home is on the move and doing great things! There will be a fashion show on the 16th, and Women’s Day will be on the 17th! Our speaker will be Dr. Bridgette Weatherspoon, Vice President of Enrollment at United Theological Seminary.

Member Spotlight:
Sis. Shanta Mack
The Member Spotlight for the month of August is Sis. Shanta Mack!
Sis. Mack joined our faith family as the wife of our Pastor and has since become a sister to us all! She currently leads our S.A.S.S.Y. Women's ministry at The Home and teaches some good 'ole down-to-earth lessons during Church-At-Study on Sunday mornings.
In addition to her professional and educational accolades, Sis. Mack is also our Brotherhood District Treasurer, our General Missionary Baptist State Convention Treasurer, and a teacher in our National Baptist Convention Congress. Like her busy husband, she does not miss an opportunity to glorify God with her service to the Kingdom of God!
Sis. Mack is blessed to be able to share in local worship and fellowship with her mother, Sis. Cathy Belyeu; her son, Bro. Rashawn Johnson; her cousin, Min. Debra Fomby; and of course, her husband, Pastor Marlon Mack. Her sister, Sis. Yolanda Patterson (in North Carolina) is one Sweet Home's virtual members!
Sis. Mack has many gifts, one being prayer. Her readiness to petition the throne of grace on behalf of anyone in need is undergirded by her humble spirit. She often shares that one of her favorite scriptures is I Corinthians 15:10: "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God in me."
We thank God for the presence of Sis. Mack at Sweet Home, and there is no doubt that she is praying for us!

Ministry Highlight
The Ministry Highlighted for the month of August is the SASSY Women’s Ministry of Sweet Home. The ladies of our faith family are Saved And Sanctified Sisters Yielding, to God of course! These sisters are active in every aspect of ministry at The Home, and they work to ensure that authentic ministry goes forth as we seek to engage in authentic discipleship. We anticipate great things from these sisters as the Lord allows them to continue to work in His will, for His
purpose, and to His glory!

"CONfusion"
When you see the word confusion, right away you see that it starts with “con”. A con is a trick or deceptive tactic used to persuade a person to do or believe something. One of Satan’s main weapons is confusion. He often uses confusion to lead people away from the calmness and clarity that God provides, in hopes that they will no longer trust or believe God’s word. 1 Corinthians 14:33 states that God is not the author of confusion but of peace. Well, the devil could publish a whole series on the exact opposite. If something has your mind confused and restless, ask yourself what lead to that disturbance, and seek God’s council. There are many examples of Satan’s attempts to tempt and trick people, including Jesus himself, into going against God’s will. When confusion takes over your thoughts, there is no better physical source to look to for help than the Bible. It is important to stay attached to the solid foundation God has given us in the word, because the further away we stray, the easier it is for confusion to win.
