Sweet Home 2023:

"The 5G Church"
We Gather, We Group, We Grow, We Go, We Give

From the Pastor:

Joy to the world, the Lord is come! This is the season that we celebrate the incarnation, Emmanuel, God with us. God, in His desire to be a part of every area of our lives, chose to manifest His power, purpose, and presence in our lives by coming in the person of Jesus the Christ, to be the vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice as payment for the penalty of our sins.

Because God loves us so much, when we were separated from Him because of sin, He redeemed us to Himself. While we celebrate the holiday season, let's keep in mind the true and eternal reason for our joy. The God who loves us died for us, that we might live for Him!

Please know that if you have any ideas or submissions, you can send them to us at info@sweethomembcgary.org.

In Anticipation of Greater,

Member Spotlight:

Sis. Liz Braswell

The Member Spotlight for the month of December is Sis. Liz Braswell!

Sis. Liz has become our resident seamstress and skin care consultant! She is an active member of our S.A.S.S.Y. women's ministry and is a dutiful and caregiving aunt to Min. Gwen Cooper.

Sis. Liz was asked what her favorite scripture is, and her response was this: "My favorite scripture is Psalm 23, because when I was 8 years old, I almost drowned, and developed a fear of water. But, when I turned 16, I was baptized! That's when I discovered that the Lord is truly my Shepherd!"

According to Sis. Liz, God has displayed so much love, grace, and mercy in her life. She wholeheartedly believes in the power of prayer and the consistency of prayer. "God will answer your prayers", she proclaims, "all you have to do is trust Him!"

Sis. Liz is a resident of the Gary, IN community, and is the proud mother of three honorable young men. She loves to bowl and enjoys attending bowling tournaments during the summer season. She is retired from the retail industry as a make-up/skincare and fragrance consultant, but continues to sew and do alterations, as this is one of her many gifts. Sis. Liz makes coats, suits, and dresses. "Whatever you want, I can make it," was her response when asked what her specialty was.

Sis. Liz wants to leave these final words with our readers, "PRAYER WORKS!" She said that it doesn't matter what size the problem is, or the length of your prayer. None of that will stop God from hearing you. Our Lord and our Shepherd will provide, keep, and protect us, no matter what! Praise God for that word of encouragement, Sis. Liz! God Bless you!

"The Reason for the Season"

The holiday season brings out different emotions for different people. Some people are happy for the days filled with family and food; some are saddened by the thought of yet another celebration without a loved one who is no longer here. Both are OK. One thing that we want to remember in either case is the real reason for the season. Although Christmas is a commercialized holiday, we as Christians still have an opportunity to be the reminder of what we should be celebrating. Gifts are great, decorations are beautiful, but there is no Christmas without CHRIST. Take the time to really reflect on what God has done for you. If you’re reading this, just the fact that He brought you through another 12 months (no matter how hard those months may have been) is something to celebrate. God gifted us with His only Son, so that we who deserved nothing could have a chance at an eternity with EVERYTHING. If this season brings you joy, give thanks to God. If this season brings you pain, give thanks to God. No matter what you may feel, just remember the reason for the season.

Thank you to anyone who has found some enjoyment in reading these Millennial Moments throughout this year.

With love and gratitude -

Sis. Alicia Allen
