Happy New Year! This is the Lord's doing, and it's marvelous in our eyes! I am so grateful for the favor and grace that God has shown us in 2022, and as we enter into 2023 our great God will continue to remain faithful in His promises to His people. Our challenge is to remain steadfast in our commitment to the cause of Christ.

To that end, 2023 will be a 5G year for us! We will:

Sweet Home Community News - January 2023

The Member Spotlight for the month of January is Sis. Gail Mangum! She is our Superintendent of Christian Education, a part of the Media Ministry, and one of our S.A.S.S.Y. sisters! When Sis. Gail was told she was our newest member spotlight, this was her response:

"I was born on May 5, 1950, to John and Martha Bonner at St. Catherine's hospital in East Chicago, IN. I was the fourth child out of eleven. I attended Frobel, Alaine Locke, Edison schools and graduated from Tolleston High School in 1968. I got my degree in computer technology and programming from Purdue University Northwest. I got my first job at School City of Gary at the age of fifteen. I worked there for four years. I also worked for Spiegel's, Blue Cross Blue Shield, St. Catherine's Hospital, St. Mary Mercy Medical, Ancilla Systems, and retired from Northwest Family Hospital as Director of Information Systems. I met LC Magnum in July of 1968 and married him in August of 1969. We have 3 daughters 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at the age of 5 and was baptized by Rev. T. J. Ship at Tarrytown M.B. Church, where I sang in the Choir and taught the Sunday School's primary class. I joined Sweet Home M.B. Church in 1972 and am still a member to this day. I have held many positions such as choir member, teacher, pastor's aide member, trustee, finance committee, church secretary, youth director, kitchen committee, and beautifying committee. My favorite scripture is the 27th Psalm.  It's my favorite because it lets me know I have nothing to fear. God is always with me, and He takes care of me even in the time of trouble. He shelters me and protects me. This is what keeps me going when the storms of life come. I encourage everyone to get in a relationship with Jesus, study His Word, be obedient to His call, and except His will for your life. Never give up hope and remain faithful to God and He will remain faithful to you."

The Christian Education Ministry at Sweet Home endeavors to provide holistic learning opportunities that allows participants to be engaged, equipped, and empowered to live out their faith as disciples of Christ in this world.

Our Church-At-Study is currently engaged in a study entitled, STRATEGIC DISCIPLESHIP, designed to transition us from church membership to Christian Discipleship. This ministry is comprised of several dedicated teachers as well as committed students who meet each Tuesday at 6:30pm.
