Sweet Home 2023:
"The 5G Church"
We Gather, We Group, We Grow, We Go, We Give
| |
From the Pastor:
Sixty-one years! God has been SO FAITHFUL to the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church family! While we celebrate our proud legacy and rich history, my prayer is that we take this opportunity to strategize, galvanize, and utilize the gifts and resources that He has given us.
As the faith family of Sweet Home, my prayer is that we will grow bolder in our discipleship, grow deeper in our worship, and grow richer in our fellowship. God is calling us to greater in each of these areas, and I look forward to sharing this journey with each of you!
Please know that if you have any ideas or submissions, you can send them to us at info@sweethomembcgary.org.
In Anticipation of Greater,
Rev. Marlon C. Mack, Sr., Senior Pastor

Member Spotlight:
Sis. Michelle Henderson
The Member Spotlight for the month of November is Sis. Michelle Henderson!
Sis. Michelle is one of our amazing members who has publicly overcome many adversities and struggles, and boldly confesses her faith! She is an active member of our SASSY Women's ministry, and is the main caretaker for her dad, John Henderson, a brother in our Sweet Home family. Her favorite scripture is Hebrews 11:6, she says, "because of all the surgeries I've had, I have faith that my God will bring me through."
Sis. Michelle is the oldest of two children from Sis. Crystal Henderson. Her only child, Javonte Higgins, is a thriving college student at Lane College, and she works at Monosol, where she has been a Buyer for 6 years. When asked about her hobbies, she stated with a huge smile, "I love to shop and travel!" Currently, Sis. Michelle is dealing with some health issues. "I suffer from Gastroparesis, the paralyzing of the lower stomach. I have a battery that helps me to eat. I also have a degenerative disc disease, which is when you lose all the cartilage in your body, so 55% of what should be cartilage in my body is metal; located in my neck, back, right knee, and both ankles." Praise God for endurance and His unfailing strength!
She had been a member of Sweet Home for the past 11 years, and shows up with a cane, or without, just to be in the presence of the Lord with her spiritual family!
When she was asked about how she maintains each day, her answer was, "My faith keeps me going. My family helps and supports me wholeheartedly." She wanted to leave this for our Homework readers: "Keep God first... everything else will fall in place with His guidance. Listen to that inner voice, which is the Holy Spirit, He will not steer you wrong." Amen, Sis. Michelle, God will NEVER steer us wrong! God bless you!

Ministry Highlight
The faith family of Sweet Home is our highlighted ministry for the month of November. As a congregation we are a generous, loving group of believers who are yet growing in their faith walk. While we are not perfect, we are PRESSING!
I thank God for His sweet Spirit that manifests His power, purpose, and presence in each of the lives of our disciples. My prayer is that we will continue to be encouraged, empowered, and enabled, as we seek to live out our faith as human beings, not humans doing!

"Seasons"
We all go through different seasons in life. The more life you live, the more seasons you experience. Some are full of joy, some are sad, some are confusing and uncomfortable, and some seasons are peaceful. Like the seasons in nature, the seasons in our lives all look different, but what it looks like isn’t always what it truly is. When trees start to shed leaves in autumn, to an onlooker they seem like they are weakening and dying. In actuality, trees are at their strongest in the fall because they are preserving all of the energy they normally have to put into producing healthy fruit or maintaining leaves. When your life seems like it’s falling apart, it could be God’s way of pushing you to put aside some of the things you are putting energy towards, to focus more on preserving yourself and your relationship with Him. In Matthew 28:20, He tells us “And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” It’s a great reminder that even in the “bad” seasons and the shedding seasons, God is with you. Seasons change, but God remains the same.
