As my office continues serving the residents of Palm Beach County, I wanted to take a moment to recognize some important transitions within my team.

First, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to my former Chief of Staff, Caitlin Joyce, on graduating from Florida Atlantic University with her Master’s degree in Business. Caitlin has dedicated the past four years to serving the residents of Palm Beach County alongside me, and I am incredibly grateful for all of her hard work. While we will certainly miss her, I am excited to see her begin this next chapter as she transitions into the private sector. On behalf of my office, I wish Caitlin continued success in all her future endeavors.

At the same time, I am pleased to welcome Connor Bernhardt to my office, who officially joined the team on May 11, 2026. Connor previously worked in Planning, Zoning, and Building, where he served as a Code Compliance Officer for the past year. He has been with Palm Beach County for four and a half years, and I am excited to have him joining my office. In his new role, Connor will be handling the Zoning Agenda, Comprehensive Plan Amendment Agenda, gift reporting, and constituent correspondence.

I also want to recognize Christian Wright, who has been with my office for nearly four years and will continue as Deputy Chief of Staff. She manages my calendar, proclamations, and assists with constituent issues. Her dedication and institutional knowledge continues to be invaluable assets to our team. Everyone who schedules a meeting with me can vouch for how amazing she is!

Additionally, Nicole Bilotta, who joined my office last year, has jumped in with both feet. She will be stepping into the role of Chief of Staff. In her expanded role, she will be assisting with the newsletter, the Board of County Commissioners Regular Agenda, Workshop Agenda items, social media, and overall office operations.

Before taking office, I wondered why a commissioner would need a staff of three. I now know, I could not do near what I do now without them. Big thanks to the D-4 Team! I am very lucky!

Palm Beach County recently launched its Homebuyer Match Pilot Program, which offers up to $50,000 in dollar-for-dollar matching funds to assist income eligible residents with down payments and closing costs.

The program is expected to support a minimum of 60 homebuyers in its first phase. Participants must contribute a minimum of $10,000 toward their home purchase.

Following a random drawing held on April 27, 60 applicants were selected from the pre-application pool and invited to submit full applications for review. To date, 25 applications have been received and are currently moving through the review process.

If additional completed applications are not submitted by next Monday, another random drawing will be conducted from the remaining applicant pool to continue filling available spots in the program.

~Brightline Sendoff~

Honored to attend a special send-off for a group of inspiring 12th-grade students from Palm Beach County, alongside Boca Raton Mayor Andy Thomson.

These young women, participants in the debutante mentorship program of the Frances J. Bright Woman’s Club, embarked on a meaningful journey to Miami via Brightline as part of the Taste, History, Art & Culture Study Tour. The Frances J. Bright Woman’s Club is a 100% volunteer community service organization named in honor of Frances J. Bright. I hope these brilliant young ladies had a safe and enriching experience as they explored, learned, and grew!

~Best Foot Forward Blue Jean Bash~

Had a great time at the Best Foot Forward Blue Jean Bash at The Boca Raton! Over 500 friends, family, supporters, and staff came together to celebrate this amazing organization, including Yvette Drucker, Marc Wigder and Fran Nachlas. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, the event raised over $1 million to support Best Foot Forward’s life-changing programs.

Founded by Donna Chirico Biase and Debbie Ellman, Best Foot Forward offers academic support, mentorship, and guidance to foster care and at-risk youth, from kindergarten through college.

~AARP Fraud Awareness Month~

Issued a proclamation recognizing April as AARP Fraud Awareness Month at The Volen Center.

We were honored to welcome Florida Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, who spoke about the importance of fraud prevention and the state of Florida’s ongoing efforts to protect residents.

Americans lose billions of dollars each year to fraud, with older adults disproportionately affected. In 2025 alone, Floridians reported $1.14 billion in fraud losses, underscoring why prevention, education, and strong consumer protections are more important than ever. Increasing awareness empowers all Floridians, to better protect themselves, their families, and their financial security.

~5th Annual International Concours d'Elegance ~

It was a pleasure to attend the 5th Annual International Delray Beach Concours d’Elegance, a remarkable celebration of historic automotive art and international culture.

From iconic 1960s Ferraris to timeless 1920s Rolls-Royces, along with legendary Formula One racecars and Pebble Beach award winners, this one-of-a-kind event offered an up-close look at automotive excellence. It is the only Concours d’Elegance free and open to the public in the U.S.

Most importantly, the Concours is about more than extraordinary vehicles. It’s about community. Proceeds from the event support charitable initiatives that strengthen local programs and make a meaningful difference right here in the City of Delray Beach.

~Property Tax Tour~

Continued my Property Tax Tour with a stop at The Studio at Mizner Park.

Palm Beach County property taxes help fund many essential local services, including roads and infrastructure, parks, public safety, Palm Tran, and a wide range of community programs. With ongoing discussions in Tallahassee regarding potential statewide changes to property taxes, these presentations are an opportunity to keep residents informed and engaged about what these changes could mean for our community. We had more than 30 minutes of Q + A!

Thank you to Brian R. Stenberg and Peg Anderson for helping organize this event, and to State Representative Peggy Gossett-Seidman for joining the conversation. Also in attendance were Troy McLellan, President of the Boca Chamber; Albert Cacace, SFRTA Board Member; Mark Sohaney, Boca Raton City Manager; and Stacy Sipple, Boca Raton City Council Member. I also really appreciate all the residents who attended and shared their valuable feedback.

~COBWRA Installation~

Had the pleasure of attending the annual Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations (COBWRA) Installation Ceremony and swearing in District 4 resident, Debbie Murphy, as 1st Vice President once again. Congratulations to the entire COBWRA board on being sworn in again, including President Barbara Roth, Second Vice President Irwin Cohen, Secretary Cheryl Dodes, and Treasurer Debbie Mindlin, along with all members of the Board of Directors.

It was great to see such strong community support with the Clerk of Courts, Mike Caruso; Mayor, Sara Baxter; Commissioner, Maria Sachs; State Attorney, Alexcia Cox; and Tax Collector, Anne Gannon, all present.

As always, the morning opened with a moving presentation by the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Honor Guard and Pipes and Drums.

~Small Business Week~

Honored to attend the Small Business Week Kickoff Breakfast and present a proclamation officially declaring May 3–9, 2026 as Palm Beach County Small Business Week.

Palm Beach County is proud to support a thriving network of entrepreneurs and small business owners. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, driving innovation, creating jobs, and strengthening our communities every day. In fact, they generate nearly two out of every three new jobs across the country.

A special thank you to the Office of Small Business Development for their continued commitment to expanding opportunities and supporting local businesses.

~Boca Leadership Day~

Joined the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Boca 2026 for Government Day on April 22, alongside Commissioner Maria Sachs and Clerk Mike Caruso. Also a big thank you to Yulimar Quintero Trumbo, the CEO of Hei Florida, for being the moderator.

Programs like Leadership Boca play a vital role in shaping the future of Boca Raton by cultivating informed, engaged, and motivated leaders. Through immersive sessions covering everything from economic development and education to environmental awareness and public service, participants gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our community.

Grateful to be part of a conversation that encourages civic involvement!

~Rick Paul Day~

Attended the Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services (JFS) Board Meeting, where I surprised outgoing Chair Rick Paul with a special proclamation declaring it “Rick Paul Day.”

Rick’s leadership has left a lasting mark on the community. From advancing critical human services to spearheading the ambitious “One Family. Our Future.” campaign, his impact has been both meaningful and far-reaching. Beyond his accomplishments, Rick fostered a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and purpose that strengthened the organization and inspired those around him.

Thank you, Rick, for your extraordinary service and congratulations to incoming Chair Ron Gallatin!

~First Responders Awards Luncheon~

  • Officer Sunil Surajbally
  • Detective Katherine Burstell
  • Firefighter Damian Farach
  • Firefighter/Paramedic Conner Reichanbach
  • Fire Captain Will Pantoja
  • Firefighter/Paramedic Jared Skinner.

Golden Bell Education Foundation Appreciation Reception

I had the pleasure of attending the Golden Bell Education Foundation Donor Appreciation Reception with the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce at The Addison.

Thank you to Troy McLellan for the invitation! I’m especially grateful to Marta Batmasian and Jim Batmasian for their generous grant supporting the Foundation through The Addison’s Centennial Grant Program. Your commitment to education makes a lasting impact on our students.

A special thank you to Zoe Lanham and the entire team at The Addison for hosting such a memorable evening. It was wonderful to see so many community leaders and supporters in attendance.

The Golden Bell Foundation plays a vital role in supporting the Boca Raton public school system by funding programs that promote business skills and real-world learning opportunities for students.

50th Anniversary of the Sister Cities

Presented an off-site proclamation to Nancy King and Daphney Antoine celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Sister Cities partnership between Delray Beach and Miyazu, Japan, in partnership with the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.

In April, Morikami Museum Director Bonnie LeMay personally delivered the proclamation to Mayor Masafumi Kinosaki in Miyazu.

This enduring relationship is rooted in the vision of George Sukeji Morikami, whose 1973 land donation led to the creation of the Morikami Museum in 1977. That same year, Sister Cities Delray Beach was established to connect our community with his homeland.

For nearly five decades, this partnership has fostered cultural exchange, student ambassador programs, and lasting international friendships. It’s truly incredible that a piece of Palm Beach County’s story now lives on and is celebrated all the way in Miyazu, Japan.

~Unity Day Expo ~

It was a pleasure to attend the 4th Annual Unity Day Expo 2026 at Hughes Park in Boca Raton. This incredible free community event, coordinated by partnership of Changing Lives of Boca Raton, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Breaking Chains Ministry, and Investments Limited, brought together residents and organizations dedicated to strengthening families and connecting people with vital resources.

Attendees had access to valuable information on family health, referrals for public assistance, and a wide range of local support services. It was truly inspiring to see our community come together in such a meaningful way. Families also enjoyed giveaways, samples, fun activities and games for kids, and delicious food provided by Mississippi Sweets.

~Arts Garage Proclamation~

Honored to present a proclamation recognizing the 15th anniversary of Arts Garage in Delray Beach’s Pineapple Grove Arts District. Since opening its doors in 2011, Arts Garage has been a vital community hub, offering over 300 performances, classes, and community programs each year. With more than 31,000 attendees annually, it’s become an essential part of our local culture.

Arts Garage isn't just a cultural venue, it’s a key driver of our local economy, contributing an estimated $3.8 million each year through cultural tourism and community partnerships.

~Pubbelly Sushi Ribbon Cutting~

Attended the ribbon cutting for Pubbelly Sushi at Town Center at Boca Raton. Pubbelly Sushi brings a creative fusion of Japanese and Latin-inspired cuisine by founding chef partner José Mendín. The food was outstanding, I may have even enjoyed a taquito or two!

It was a wonderful evening celebrating alongside many members of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations Pubbelly on your newest location and wishing you continued succes!

This month, I'm proud to highlight the impactful work being done by the American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY), an organization dedicated to supporting children who take on the extraordinary responsibility of caring for family members facing illness, disability, mental health challenges, frailties of aging, or substance misuse.

AACY envisions a nation where Caregiving Youth are understood, appreciated, and celebrated as they pursue their dreams and opportunities while balancing the demands of caregiving at home.

Their mission is centered on championing youth under the age of 18 who provide significant care and assistance to loved ones. Through academic support, guidance, and advocacy, AACY helps these young caregivers succeed both in school and in life.

While children are often seen as the recipients of care, many young people quietly serve as caregivers every day. These responsibilities can include helping with medications, preparing meals, assisting with mobility, or providing emotional support to family members facing chronic illness or other health challenges.

Without proper support, Caregiving Youth are at greater risk for academic, social, and emotional difficulties. Organizations like AACY are working to change that by bringing visibility to these young people and ensuring they receive the resources, understanding, and encouragement they deserve.

Their work is helping create a future where no child caregiver feels invisible, and where every Caregiving Youth has the opportunity to thrive both at home and in the classroom.

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the American Association of Caregiving Youth to discuss their impact metrics and explore ways they can continue to serve the residents of Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County is supported by nearly 40 departments and divisions, with more than 7,000 employees working every day to serve our county.

This month, we highlight the important work being done throughout Palm Beach County in recognition of Mental Health Awareness and Trauma-Informed Care Month. Through the continued efforts of the many partners involved with Birth to 22: United for Brighter Futures and the annual Get Your Green On Campaign, our community is helping raise awareness about mental health and trauma.

Earlier this month, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners officially proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness and Trauma-Informed Care Month.

The Get Your Green On campaign encourages residents across Palm Beach County to wear green and show visible support for mental health awareness. This year, Thursday, May 21, 2026, has been designated as “Get Your Green On Day,” inviting everyone to participate by wearing green and sharing messages of encouragement and awareness throughout the community.

When driving through downtown West Palm Beach or along Military Trail south of Southern Boulevard at night, residents may notice the green glow illuminating the Historic Palm Beach County Courthouse and the County’s Four Points Building. These green lights serve as a powerful symbol of support for mental health awareness and trauma-informed care. Or you might see Palm Tran's Green Bus!

Campaigns like Get Your Green On help remind our community that that no one should feel alone in their struggles.

Throughout the month of May, events and activities will continue taking place across Palm Beach County to encourage conversations about mental wellness and connect residents with valuable local resources. By coming together as a community, we can continue building a culture of compassion, understanding, and support for all.

Palm Beach County has the largest U.S. concentration of which rare ecosystem?

We had some brilliant minds tackle our April trivia question: "When was the first (and last) snowfall recorded in Palm Beach County?" A round of applause for everyone who selected 1977.

We welcome your feedback on our District 4 newsletter. Please let us know if you found this information helpful and what else you would like to know.

National Correctional Officers and Employees Week

I was proud to present a proclamation at May 5th's Board of County Commissioners meeting declaring May 3–9, 2026 as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week.

This week recognizes the dedicated professionals who work every day to keep our community safe while supporting rehabilitation and second chances. Correctional officers and employees serve in high-pressure environments with courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to public safety.

Here in Palm Beach County, we are grateful for their service and the vital role they play in our criminal justice system. Please join me in thanking these men and women from The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office for their hard work and dedication and for coming out to accept this proclamation.

Run for the Roses

It was a pleasure to attend the 2nd Annual “Run for the Roses,” hosted by the Rotary Club of Delray Beach at Old School Square in downtown Delray Beach.

This Kentucky Derby, inspired celebration brought together community members for an evening of elegance, fun, and purpose, all in support of a truly meaningful mission: raising funds for 10 scholarships for graduating high school seniors and providing essential items to nearly 100 children experiencing homelessness in our community.

The event featured the excitement of the Derby, festive attire contests, and a wonderful Southern-style atmosphere that showcased the best of Delray Beach community spirit.

Recognizing Liz Quirantes' 35 years with CBS 12 News

Honored to present a proclamation at the May 5 Board of County Commissioners meeting recognizing Liz Quirantes on her retirement and celebrating 35 incredible years with CBS 12 News.

An Emmy Award-winning journalist and trusted anchor since 1991, Liz has not only informed our community but also changed lives, especially through her “Forever Family” segment, helping foster children find loving, permanent homes. Her impact extends far beyond the newsroom, serving organizations like ChildNet, AVDA, and the H.O.P.E. Project, and covering major stories from 9/11 to Hurricane Dorian and Parkland

.

A heartfelt thank you to her family, friends, and colleagues for coming out to support her and help accept this proclamation, it made the moment even more special. Congratulations, Liz, on an inspiring career and lasting legacy in our community. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter!

Chief Michele Miuccio's Retirement

After 37 years of service, Boca Raton Police Chief Michele Miuccio is retired!

I attended the Boca Raton Police Foundation retirement celebration honoring Michele, held at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant.

The event brought together more than 120 friends, family members, and colleagues. During the ceremony, Foundation Chair Jeff Hollander presented her with a plaque recognizing her career, and former City Manager George Brown presented a shadow box containing the badges she wore throughout her service.
