Small Groups Begin Sept 23

On Thursday, September 23, we will hold our first small group gatherings called Life Groups.

For 6 consecutive Thursday evenings, we will share a meal at church at 6:15pm. Then, we’ll meet together in groups of 8-10 people in various locations on site, or in homes (or online, if necessary) for conversation, fellowship, learning and spiritual growth.

Each group will have 2 co-hosts, who will guide participants as we share what’s going on in our own lives, discuss topics brought up in the previous week’s sermon, and pray together.

Please Note: We will follow all County of Alameda guidance on health and safety relating to COVID 19.

Sign up deadline is this Sunday, 8pm at church and online.

Wednesday Bible Study

Join Dr. Don Ashburn each Wednesday morning from 10-11am on Zoom, as we journey together through the Book of Acts.

No preparation and no previous experience studying the Bible is needed. Just join us, as we learn how the early Christians lived their faith and spread the good news in very difficult times.

CANCELLED - The LivingRoom Conversation (LRC) originally scheduled for this Sunday has been cancelled. We look forward to having another opportunity to meet for LRC's in the future, especially when we can gather together in person without masks.

Afghanistan:
How To Help

By Scott Willis
Refugee Task Force

America's withdrawal from Afghanistan has created a refugee crisis. In the past week, approximately 120,000 people, most of them Afghans, were airlifted out of Kabul. At this time, it is unclear what capacity various countries and cities have to house and care for this wave of refugees.

We do know that, in the Bay Area, Jewish Family and Community Services East Bay (JFCS) is the primary agency to accept refugees. JFCS accepted 43 refugees in August and anticipates 89 more people in September.

I reached out to JFCS to offer our support and willingness to get involved. In the past week, they received over 2,000 offers from individuals, religious groups, businesses, and local & state governments. They will align refugee families to resource teams as they see fit.

JFCS is a well run organization and I encourage you to donate directly to JFCS. Instructions on how to donate are provided directly from a JFCS email below:
Your financial contributions to JFCS East Bay, purchases from our wish list of household items, and responses to our call for volunteers continue to be vital to our work. This is truly a whole community effort, as we all work together to provide safety and refuge to our new Afghan neighbors.
Please keep your ears open for ways that Piedmont Church can help and reach out to me as possible opportunities arrive.
